Dreamcatchers

Morning all,

Some time ago I posted an article about changing my Spendor A5 loudspeakers.

I was not happy with the A5s which I must admit were a rushed purchase ( yes I know my fault entirely ) and received various replies which included moving the A5s to a skip.

Anyway, to cut a long story short as they say I am now the happy owner of a pair of Totem Dreamcatchers on the end of

CD5X, 122X, 150X, Flatcap2X.

I listened to other options which included Focal,  Dynaudio and  PMC but there was something about the Dreamcatchers which was just "right". As it happened a friend of mine had the Dreamcatchers on a similar system to mine and kindly lent me them for a couple of weeks. My new pair  have only been up and running for a couple of days so it will be interesting to see how they improve over time.

The Totems sound much clearer and sharper than the A5s and the bass is tighter, vocals are well defined too. The A5s just didn't get my feet tapping but these do. I'm still experimenting with final positioning of the stands ( Atacama Moseco ) to get them just right.

All in all...one happy bunny.

Regards,

Alan.

I'm always happy to see another satisfied Totem user here. Also good to see you went with your ears and didn't let speaker price prejudice your judgment. The A5s may have performed better with more power, but I think  you went for overall system balance with the Dreamcatchers. Smart move!

Excellent! Those Dreamcatchers are lovely speakers. They most certainly do not belong in a skip. Isn't it good when everything comes together?

Just curious, which speaker models from PMC, Focal & Dynaudio did you listen to and compare to the Totem?

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes the A5s may have been better with more power and/or in a different room but they just didn't suit me and my ears. The other models I listened to were the Focal aria 905s, Dynaudio Emit 10s and the PMC 20.21s.

The PMCs were nice but I didn't think they warranted nearly £1000 over the Dreamcatchers.

Congratulations,  at the end of the day,  it's your ears and your money,  glad it's worked out for you.

With long enough lengths of speaker cables and two skips either side of listening position, could of been worth an audition with the right material !
