Next upgrade path for 272 and dr250

Posted by: Ricto on 05 July 2016

Hi All

I very recently purchased a Naim NAC272, DR250 power amp and focal 1028be speakers using QED silver anniversary speaker wire, i only listen to streamed music.

I am looking for my next upgrade path as soon as I get a fourth job to pay for it. Power supply, different speaker wire or perish the thought a different source?

Any suggestion would be helpful bare in mind I'm broke so keep it cheap but has to be worth it!

Lol To behonest thats what I thought but I do think he has some good songs now. But will check hearing just in case.

Does any one know whether you can sell livestock on eBay just checking out my options if wife offers ultimatum on speakers?

My now ex-wife came out with "You're not having a TVR while I have any say in the matter" ... personally I took that as her tacit understanding that there was a choice to be made and that she was happy for me to make it...

...that was ten years ago and I now have a 21 year old TVR Chimaera.

Oddly, even after telling my now ex-girlfriend about this she was still remiss enough to come round to mine one weekend and - upon seeing the DBLs that I had managed to acquire - state "Those things are never coming into any place that we have together..."

...I still have the DBLs and they sound lovely on the end of my 552 / 500.

Well, we'd discontinued the DBLs and I wasn't going to be able to replace those!

QED silver anniversary, arghh!

I'd get rid first.  I too had this for years (bi wire on non naim system) and didn't realise how awful it was until I got Atlas hyper bi wire. Stayed up all night listening..... smoother, neutral, detailed, nice bass, aggressive treble gone, lovely mid. Later sold Atlas when git intro Naim and the 2 buyers (i had long lengths and sold as 2 pairs) were equally impressed by it. Probably not produced now but great at the time.

Moved speakers to either side of fire place on asphalt floor with carpet and speakers have spikes through to asphalt. Since move speakers sound  awful in he mid range to a point they uncomfortable to listen to at anything other than low volume. I've checked speaker polarity, any further suggestions apart from put speakers back where they where?

Asphalt? In a living room??? Perhaps concrete....

From what you describe it would seem there are some fundamental room acoustics issues to be dealt with. Reflections off hard surfaces behind you?

No it's asphalt, I'm going post a picture when I figure out how
