Hi,

I am using the Audioquest BFA Banana Plug on speaker end, it is gold material, how about you ?

What material good for NAC A5 ?

Cheers,

The plug should ideally be the same as the terminal it's installed in & avoid possible problems with dissimilar metals.

I have nickel plated Naim 4mm banana plugs at the amp end that fit to the nickel plated Naim amp speaker 4mm connection sockets.   My speaker end 4mm banana's are gold plated & fit to the gold plated speaker binding posts.

Hi Mike,

Yes, I am using the naim banana plugs at the amp end, I think it should be default and standard.

I am using the Kudos Super 10 speakers, how do you think use the naim banana plugs ? Match ?

Cheers,

Hi Marcobb,  the Kudos 10's have gold plated terminals & I'm not sure the Kudos terminals conform to the 19mm spacing of the Naim plugs.

A lot of people use the Naim plugs in gold terminals & they do not report problems,  but I have.  The nickel & "gold" reacted in my connections & despite numbers very thorough cleaning once or twice a year, a grey powdery deposit appeared,  it looked like the nickel plate was eroding. I've since renewed the Monacor speaker terminal (gold plated terminals) & fitted Deltron gold plated 4mm banana plugs to the Chord Odyssey cable,  the problem has not returned.

Naim banana's on both ends here. At the speaker side my dealer did not fit the angled plugs which come with each amplifier, but straight ones without the plastic cover. I think they were introduced with the NAP100 and so...

Nickle-plated Chord plugs on the speaker side, Naim own on the amp side (the ones that came in a box). Gold is probably the worst material you could use here.

As per Prof. Mike-B: plugs and sockets should be made of the same materials.

I've used Deltron nickel on both ends since space and the angle was an issue on my amp end, but I can easily have my Naim banana's soldered on if I wanted to use them

i was always a bit cynical about speaker plugs - until  the nice man at AudioT Reading kindly soldered the relevant Naim ones at both ends on my Naca and  there is a positive improvement noticeable to both my wife and I. It was the notoriously difficult solder job that had put me off

I am now convinced!
