Browsing NAS from SuperUniti

Posted by: mano7042 on 07 July 2016

Hi All, wonder if i can get some help or guidance.

I have a Buffalo blackArmour NAS and can only seem to browse a subset of the folders when I select 'UPnP Server' from the Naim iOS app or front panel of SuperUniti. In fact only the first 16 folders out of around 200 or so can be seen(I use on folder per artist with subfolders for Albums).

I know my NAS is fine as my Sonos can browse all folders, as can my MacBook, everything is wired Ethernet, and the same NAS is a backup target for apple Time Machine which also works a treat...

Tidal, internet radio all works fine, and I use the same network to stream HD content (and 4K) to the TV which shares a switch with the SuperUniti so I know the network to that area of the house is good.

staring to pull my hair out as I'd prefer to stream direct than have to loop it though the Sonos, and I have some stuff that is 24Bit master so Sonos can't play this.

any ideas suggestions welcomed

thanks

This is likely to be an issue with the UPNP server running on the NAS drive.

Sonos doesn't require a UPNP server as it runs it's own, just looking at the files you have on the NAS which show up as a Windows share.

I would look at the configuration of your UPNP server to see where it is looking for files and make sure this is correct, maybe do a rescan if everything looks OK.

Mark - where is your UPnP Server running? Is it on your NAS? If so it will have a configuration of which directories to scan - are they correct and inclusive?

Also what media files do you have in your directories? It might be they are not all recognised by your UPnP server.

BTW you can also run the Sonos as a UPnP client via the Sonos app to access your UPnP server - and it usually works very effectively - or as you say you can configure the Sonos to act a file play system.

Another thing to check for is 'odd' characters (non-Latin characters, accented letters, umlauts, unusual punctuation etc.) in any of the tags - these can cause problems anywhere in any of the DLNA components.

Does the NASs UPnP server actually do folder and file browsing (not all do) or does it index on the tag data? If so is the tag data correct on the files that are "missing"?

Does the UPnP server on the NAS actually support the file formats that you have?

You could try testing using another UPnP server (such as Asset or MinimServer) on your computer just as a sanity check?

Cheers

I have a similar issue with my UnitiQte, I was using a vortexbox server, without any issues. The hard drive failed, very sensibly, I had ALL my files backed up on a ReadyNAS Duo, all on the same network. The Qte recognises the NAS drive, and the music folder. However, it only reads the first 105 folders, however there is actually 240 folders in the music directory. The files can be seen from my PC, so i know there is no issue there? Suggestions please? I have rebooted the NAS drive, and reset the Qte too.

And thus you get a similar answer . . . it's not the Qute that "reads" files from the nas, but the nas that "serves" them to the Qute.

When your PC can "see" the files, it is not being "served" the files, so this means nothing other than that the files are actually there.

You need to look at the media server on that nas.  Restart it.  See if that helps.  But it's not a very robust music server, not nearly as robust as the Vortexbox.  If you're not going to get the Vortexbox up and running again you should probably buy a better nas that will let you install a better server package such as Asset or MinimServer.
