Any risk in buying a Olive CDX?

Posted by: mrflange on 12 July 2016

Hi got a chance of buying a CDX and just wondering if it can still fully serviced, don't  want to take the risk if the mec or laser gives up after a year

I would find out the serial number and check with Naim on the availability of serving and spares for the item in question.

PCD is right getting serial no and contacting naim best way to go.

I bought my cdx blind from the bay about 3-4yrs ago (always better getting from a dealer) never had any problems with it, I think from memory naim only recommend sending cdx in if there is a problem with it rather than servicing every 8-10yrs like the rest of the gear.        (Could be wrong) im currently looking for an xps for it as with that it really sings, so if funds allow keep an eye out for one of those as well. And I'll fight you for it !

what's the rest of your setup?

I have emailed naim uk  asking about servicing my gear and the cdx for you and they didnt mention not being able to do it or that the mech isnt available.

Just because an original transport is not  available doesn't necessarily mean that a different and perhaps better one cannot be fitted - no doubt Naim will advise

Got my CDX earlier this year. Brilliant player (replaced a CD3.5-Flatcap)......then a month ago I got it a XPS.............ooh yes!

XPS takes CDX to different level.

I had one from Tomtom some years ago and it was spot on.  I would check you can replace the laser if it goes as I understood at the time the OEM part was no longer available to buy.  However, as stated, it may be possible to fit an alternative, although this may alter the SQ slightly.

Good CDP though I would say, it also looks fantastic on the rack
