Supernait2 + HiCap DR Question
Posted by: SongStream on 16 July 2016
I have yet to try a HiCap DR with my SN2, but I am tempted to give it a go. I understand that the HiCap is for the benefit of the preamp section when used with an SN2, but does the introduction of a HiCap bring benefits to the power amp section fed from the internal power supply now relieved of preamp duties?
Yes.
Yes.
if you decide to test a HiCap on the SuperNait, ask you dealer to supply an additional SNAIC. hiCap only comes with one.
I think you'll need a 4 pin snaic, as Adam said the hi cap comes with a 5 pin. I'll be interested to hear your findings. I'd like to try a HC on my SN1 at some point
Correct - a 4-pin SNAIC is needed.
Thanks for the replies, will bare in mind the need for 4 pin SNAIC. I think will give it a try. I've read that the difference is less significant on the 2 than with the original SN, but one man's insignificant is another's night and day it seems, so we'll see. I will report back.

I tried the HCDR on the SN2 twice but was never fully convinced...Something of the musicality was lost with the balance of the amp being adjusted - To my mind.

I love the Hicap dr on my SN2. Its a subtle change but not one I could live without now. Gives greater dynamics, adds weight to the lower registers and just makes everything sound more solid. Apologies for the poor choice of words. I would suggest if you do try one that you put it on and then just let it run for a couple of days rather than trying to sit and identify changes, then take it off and see if you miss it.

Sound advice on how to audition, absolutely agree. Not only is switching back and fourth damn near pointless in my view, it destroys the whole enjoyment factor when listening to music, which is what the point of all this is.
