if you could rename a Naim product...?

Posted by: ken c on 29 July 2016

don't know whether this belongs here -- but here we go anyhow.

in an idle moment -- i started wondering what name i would choose if i was ever in a position to rename the NAP500. Demonstrating my total lack of creativity, i could only come up with 'Thunder'.

somehow, i think there would be no need to rename the 'Nait' -- very apt 'name' -- so perhaps left as is.

but perhaps 'Spring' for the NAP300? oh dear...

just for fun, i would be interested in what alternative name(s) you would choose for any naim product(s).

enjoy...

I've played with many Naim systems with XPS2s (and have owned two, and still have a DR version) but I've only had one occasion where the fuse has blown - and I'm pretty sure that was down to the person who had earlier installed it had not properly pushed home the Powerline into the IEC socket. Sorry for the slightly off-topic post, but just saying....

The SuperLine (sans cap plug) could have been called the SuperNAT.

For the price? Or people become mad when listening to it?

The obvious one to me (although sadly no longer made) would be nSats. Naim Small Monitors would have been more appropriate. They're considerably more than a mere satellite speaker.

Exactly, and they should never have been discontinued but further developed, shame a Focal MD came by

Further to this thread, the CD5i should have written Cost Down 5 series cd player

After the noise my 250.2 was making this afternoon can I propose a change to '250.2 Hummer' or '250.2 Humbug'.  Another very appropriate name when it's buzzing away like that would be '250.2 Tinnitus' because it's damned annoying and you can't get rid of it......

Thankfully it was much quieter later this evening so all is forgiven......until the next time........

For the silly idea that one must spend a fortune to be able to enjoy reproduced music at home.

The SNAIC 4-5 could be called the "required but not supplied IC that you need to connect your new PSU", or otherwise, "the missing link".

The non-DR 500 version should be called Thumper!

A good rule is don't name any commercial product ever as it will mean something detrimental, vulgar or just plain silly somewhere in the world.  The car world is a rich picking ground for this   ........  Nova,  Pajero,  LaCrosse, LaPunta    I'll leave you with the translations.

At the same time you don't wish to exercise such political correctness that even some numbers are forbidden...the most pervasive being anything that is Series 4..... This first was apparent to me way back with the Infinity IRS Reference iii went to the IRS Reference 5......Wilson Watt3 went to the Wilson Watt 5, Nait 3 went to the Nait 5, NAT03 to NAT05 etc etc. Thank Dionysus that Quad retained sanity with not only a full 4-series but also a model 666.

Then again, the Schiit series of headphone amps seem to be quite good sellers.

The Naim Naimuniti always annoyed me - why include the company name in the product name?

simple, speakers that "disappear",shall be called naimless  . not sure which model people would choose, however.Lots of fun when telling people what your system consists of. "well I have naimless speakers"- and they would ask- well who made them
