iRadio 5 Live Sports Extra not working properly

Posted by: nudgerwilliams on 03 August 2016

Anybody else having this issue?  Trying to listen to the cricket on my Muso. Navigating through the various iRadio staion menus I just get a "Loading..." message and it won't allow me to select an option.

I have a preset set up which does start the stream, but "Restoring History" stops at 64%, and the stream restarts every 15 secs or so.

Does not seem to be happening with any other BBC stations.

I've have a similar problem with my NDS and Unitiqutes.  I've tried using vTuner to no avail ...

There are not many cricket lovers in Naim World ...

Looks like a problem with the BBC feed.  I've been listening using iPlayer Radio on an iPad with Airplay to the Muso, and that is dropping out as well.

Perhaps the BBC's warming up for the Olympics. Isn't 5LSX geo-blocked when major events are on, as the BBC only has broadcast rights for certain territories, and 'sees' vTuner as being foreign?

I had exactly the same problem yesterday on 5LSX HD.  I noted the "restoring history" stopping at 64% and then restarting.  Couldnt listen to the cricket at all, so tried using the phone app which was OK.  I did manage to fix it though!  I turned off "browse history" in the Iradio - Input setup.  After that it was fine all day without a single hiccup.  Also OK this morning.  I have a Unitilite, I assume the Muso has a similar setting, it must be worth trying.  I can't explain why this would have that effect, sounds like a software bug to me.

I also have problems with Radio Paradise but not so severe.  RP has glitches where the buffer empties and there is an interruption for 1 to 5 seconds.  This is quite random.

Cannot find that option for the Muso unfortunately. I get the same behaviour on the iPhone app as with the iPad app.  I've reverted to iPlayer Radio and Airplay today.

R5 Sports Extra is stuck on loading,  all other BBC & a bunch of stations such as RP, Naim, Linn & my other presets are working correctly,  so it must be a BBC problem.

Hi all

Plenty of cricket lovers here at HQ! We love a good test... (sorry)

That sounds like a bug I recently found after the second test. The unit is looking for a radio stream that has gone off air completely, and gets caught in a cycle at 64% every time. I have raised this as a bug here.

So in your case Nudger the preset is set to station that it thinks no longer exists, and my suspicion is that the unique way 5LSX stops and starts is making it think it's a completely new station so it can't just pick up where you left off. This is why RAYC's browse history fix works, but no there is not that option on a mu-so at the moment. A factory reset should clear it.

Update! Having said all that I can't connect to 5LSX at all now, factory reset or not. I think they may well have changed something as Andrew says above...

So looks like there's two issues at play, I'll get it looked into here...

Could do with a few wickets, think there may be some hat eating on the way...

Thanks for the info.  At least you have confirmed a software issue.  I thought I was imagining it since everybody else has blamed the BBC.

Incidentally I have no problems connecting to 5LSX at all today.  I have left 'browse history' off.

Odd that you're getting it at all at the moment. I'm tempted to ask you to reset your system and try to connect again, might lose your cricket though. Maybe wait till after the new ball...

Well the cricket has ended for the day.  The wicket at the end was a bonus.  I continued to listen without any problems, changing stations and reconnecting also.  I am not so sure I want to do a reset at the moment though!

I do still get random brief interruptions to other stations such as RP.  It is confusing because 5LSX is the only station I now get without problems at all.  I wonder if a system reset would cure the RP dropouts but kill 5LSX?

I've done the factory reset on the Muso.  Still cannot get to 5 Live SX- just get the Loading... message.

Other BBC stations, Radio Paradise, etc all fine.

Didn't muss much with the cricket today, fortunately!

One more Cricket lover here chaps.

I've had the same issue so I restored to factory mode before checking in here but never mind.

Forgot to mention I'm still having problems listening to Radio 5 Live SX still loading.

Might try the Long Wave feed or D'rAB

c'mon BBC sort it

Same issue on my 272. In my case I had no problem at all picking up R5LSX whilst it was running version 4.3 of the firmware. Then, a few weeks ago I decided to try and upgrade it to version 4.4 and, somewhat surprisingly, I succeeded. So the 272 now runs version 4.4 but ever since I did the upgrade it has suffered exactly the symptoms described by "Naim Tester" upthread. If it is to do with a change in the BBC feed then I can only surmise that the firmware change is a mere coincidence and not a contributory factor to the issue.

Hi Folks

Should be all fine now. Not totally sure what happened there but the good people at vTuner have done a fix and it's working again now.

Now lets get a couple more out and get into their middle order...

And a reminder that there are two issues here. The OP problem I think will still happen again. Don't put 5LSX as a favorite or you will get the 64% loading issue after this test is over and when you try again for the one-dayers. If you do get that, do a factory reset. We'll continue to investigate that one here.

All fine for me.  The stream that is; not the lack of wickets.

And thanks for the reminder on the preset - have deleted the one I added!

I have now done a factory reset on my Unitilite (Version 4.4 fw) and spent some time setting things up again.  I can connect to R5LSX.  Just to experiment I have stored it on a preset again,  "browse history" is on as per factory default.  Now the preset works normally, I can disconnect and reconnect without any problems.  So things are back to normal for me.  It seems my Unitilite behaves differently.

Vtuner website quote : "Our proven and rock-solid API is the de facto standard for internet radios and other IP connected consumer electronic devices. The complete implementation of the API ensures that future services and features can be easily added to your products. "  Maybe not so rock solid.

Working for me too, now. No factory reset required.
