Rugby Union RWC and Season 2011-12

Posted by: JWM on 13 July 2011

Seems a good idea to turn over to a fresh page for the coming excitement!

We have got some months of RWC warm-up matches and the RWC itself, before we descend into the usual Wasps vs Tigers obsession

But to get us started, here's the fixture list for 2011-12 http://www.leicestertigers.com/rugby/fixtures.php

Lewis Moody.  Mad Dog.  A true rugby great and servant of the game, and a Leicester Tigers legend.  I really hope he will not be remembered for the RWC 2011 catastrophe, because he doesn't deserve to be, but for his amazing and at generally selfless commitment to the game.

I feel privileged to have been able to watch him play whilst still at the top of his game.  And whilst it ruffled feathers at the time when he left for Bath in 2010 after 14+ years at Tigers, hindsight does show Tigers' assessment of his likely future fitness (or not) to have been sadly correct.

Thank you Lewis, and wishing you a long and happy retirement.  As Jonno has said (in the article) "playing alongside him was never dull".

Charming I'm sure...

For your interest, I was having an enjoyable beer with a chap last night, when he rather spoilt the evening by declaring that he was an ex-Wasps Academy player.  Enought to curdle one's Guinness.

I hope you gave him short shrift...............And was he crying in his beer

Still no sign of a visit by Flyfisher after Gloucester's complete stuffing by Leicester at the weekend...

Tom Croft wuz robbed! I know he's a Tiger but putting aside prejudice, he was immense today, maybe England's only truly world class player.

England played well today and should have won more convincingly but nearly gave it back to the French through indiscipline and lack of concentration.

It still scares me that Stevens is on the bench and it is time to drop Ashton I think.

Farrell, Morgan, Parling and the front row also played well.

Another step forward, but need to cut out the silly mistakes and penalties.

I thought we showed lots of promise today Mark. A win, and an exciting game.

Indeed Tony. Lots of the small signs we had been showing throughout this Six nations are starting to come through and they are gaining in confidence. Indeed, they could have beaten Wales and be playing for the Slam against Ireland. it's just a little indiscipline that is letting them down at the moment and it is by and large the same players committing them.

Here we go, deep breath, a Tiger agreeing with a Wasp (again).  But all in the national (but not nationalistic) cause.  Very well taken England Tries, and I couldn't help but have an extra little purr at the Leicester boys'

Some of the errors / indiscipline can stillpossibly put down to communication and relative newness, but far from all of it, and players at this level ought really to have a better personal attention to such things.

On another tack, such wins, and such a change in esprit de corps and attitude, cannot but raise Stuart Lancaster's stock value.  Though in my boots I still think it'll be Mallett for the permanent job.

Tigers hammer the Saints......AGAIN

Yeesss!  Leicester Tigers win LV= Cup 2012.  Not bad for "Tigers' worst season in recent memory" as so many have termed it.  With 6N now over, all systems go to concentrate on the Premiership.

What cup?!!

.....Oh, I remember, that one. At least they'll be alright for free lunches for a while.

Dylan Hartley has been cited for biting [Stephen Ferris`s finger], Which means he will be out for at least the rest of the season.........But it must be asked why was Ferris`s finger near Hartleys face and if that is the case why has Ferris not been accused of/cited for gouging ?????????

Your amnesia is not early onset dementia.  We all realise that it is so long since Wasps have been near any Cup that it is hard to remember what the various Cups are.

A finger pushed into a mouth will always get an automatic biting action to stop it going down the throat. Ask any child.

Unless video footage shows Dylan going for the finger then its not an offence.

But they will not see it that way, and Hartley has not been a shining example in the past has he.
