Rugby Union RWC and Season 2011-12

Posted by: JWM on 13 July 2011

Seems a good idea to turn over to a fresh page for the coming excitement!

We have got some months of RWC warm-up matches and the RWC itself, before we descend into the usual Wasps vs Tigers obsession

But to get us started, here's the fixture list for 2011-12 http://www.leicestertigers.com/rugby/fixtures.php

Tindall to be incarcerated in the Tower of London when he gets back?

Posted on: 16 September 2011 by JWM

No, more scarily, a personal interview with his mother in law!

I wonder how long it took the paparazzi to stage that

Well done Ireland.

 Ireland 15-6 Australia

Unbelievable result

Nice to see a classic northern hemisphere boring possession game beat one of the favourites who frankly didn't seem to have any answers.  And did I mention anything about trash canned.

Problem is it will most likely put Ireland head to head with SA in the Qtr final stage & that might be one game that won't lie down for them.

Well done Ireland, though I didn't see it cos I was at the hifi shop

Tigers just scrape through by one point after a Mafi try in the dying moments of the game.......phew but even better Wasps beaten by Sale Sharks........Yesssssssssss

Nice to see Tigers have remembered how to win, although it has been quite a long time. I thought that Twickenham in May had set the tone for their ongoing pattern. It was a fun day though!!

England still have problems in the forwards with far too many penalties being given away. As I see it the main culprits were Hartley and Stevens. They should be dropped and Thompson and Corbisiero instated. Both improved the scrum when they came on anyway.

Aside from that, Shaw and Haskell played well up front as did Croft when he came on. In the backs Armitage impressed and Ashton was back on the shoulder in the second half. Hape had a good game as did Foden.

Overall, England continue to struggle at the breakdown and need to arrest the penalty count. When they get the ball they show some promise, but are still guilty of some wild passing, over-ambitious off-loading, dodgy handling at the contact areas and lack of support for the runners.

Must do better.

Totally agree.  I know Cole got SB'd last time, but he had a disciplined and strong game today I thought.

Manu seemed to be the Georgian's target, so they made a particular effort to shut him down.  But that's ok, the Georgians double-teaming him helped create more space for the others.  And his Try was well taken, with an excellently judged line.

Let's make it a triumph of hope over experience!

It is fortunate that we have the RWC to take certain people's minds off the Tigers current performances.

I bet shorty is really in a bad mood now.......

I'm man enough to say it was a woeful, lamentable, even disgraceful performance by LT yesterday.  But hey, it's tough being consistently at the top, so bad days, even mediocre ones at the office stick out.  I note, though, that Northampton have also had a poor start this season. I wonder why that could be...?  (but nice to see NS and LT players being responsible for scoring four of England's Tries yesterday).

I don't mind effectively 2nd/development XV players being beaten, if they play to the best of their current ability.  What I'm more concerned about is experienced players playing half-heartedly.  Very disappointing.  And I regret to single out Scott Hamilton as an example.  He's been one of LT's better players since joining, rarely putting in less than a totally committed performance.  But his contribution so far this season has been almost non-existent.

With Bath and Quins yet to face before the 15 LT RWC players return (plus several off injured) I fear LT will have to budget for few, if any more points in this first phase of the Premiership Season.

(LT's last poor year was the RWC year of 2003).

But I keep the faith!  The measure of a true supporter is not the good times, but the bad ... as you and the Wasps boys should know FF!

No comment from me on club rugby this weekend!

I thought England played well yesterday.

Cor...And I remember when Tigers were a happy bunch, even when they lost!

I have to say having watched the AP on ITV4 tonight,  the Saffers did look very good and would have beaten most teams on that performance.

I would not slate the Tigers that much for their performance on Saturday as i would say it were more like a third string team than a second and it would of been a converted try less if one of the new boys had not delivered retibution on a grounded Saffa right in front of the linesman   but i knew that we would lose this game before it started, so no suprises for me and the futures bright so we will take whatever comes on the chin knowing things WILL only get better . Also it will be interesting to see how the Saffa`s progress when John Smit arrives. Great performance by the Welsh today and a interesting match is waiting ahead for them in the form of the Irish

Forgot to add that as usual Borthwick was whinging to the ref and the linesmen on several occasions, nothing made me happier than when he was desposed of from the England team apart from T*m P*y*ne that is

Stonking performance from Castro this morning against the Eagles

Posted on: 01 October 2011 by Chillkram

England are in big trouble in this game. They can't kick a point and they don't look like scoring a try. if anything, Scotland look the more likely to do so. Youngs is having a shocker. He is too slow, getting caught constantly and his passing is wild. Wilkinson is having a shocker with the boot. Stevens is getting mullered in the scrum. Get them all off.

Another 3 points goes begging for Wilko

Hurrah! At last, Stevens off!
