Rugby Union RWC and Season 2011-12
Posted by: JWM on 13 July 2011
We have got some months of RWC warm-up matches and the RWC itself, before we descend into the usual Wasps vs Tigers obsession
But to get us started, here's the fixture list for 2011-12 http://www.leicestertigers.com/rugby/fixtures.php
"Clarification. There was a bit of confusion about the strange circumstances of Twelvetrees' first Try. It seems that the ball was knocked back by a Wasps arm, not forward by Tigers' Thomas Waldrom, for Twelvetrees to then ground the ensuing loose ball"
I watched the replay and although the commentator says this you cannot see it on the tv screen, the ball was definitely knocked on by a Tiger's hand - right in front of us.
Any way a good day with great company and a decent but mild curry.
Wasps showed more spirit than in recent times and the margin was a little flattering to Tigers in the end
But flattering all the same as this comment from wasps own website will testify........
Tigers too good at Welford Road................
Also warmed the cockles of my heart to see T*m P@#ne sent off .
Looking forward to seeing more of Logoviii Mulipola

The score that matters though is the final one
Ulster 41-07 Tigers. Now that is a plain and simple, no excuses, stuffing. More stuffing than our recent Christmas turkey. Good grief, Charlie Brown.
Great day of European rugby today, culminating in Saints 36 Munster 51.....phew wot a scorcher!
Sadly, English representation is minimal with only Saracens looking like they will qualify. A very sad indictment on the state of Rugby in England at the moment.
Sarries just squeaked it. On that evidence they won't be winning anything. Treviso should have won that game.
English rugby is in the doldrums at the moment.
England u18 squad were given a sound beating today by the Tigers academy 27-15......Nice
What a delight to win the Calcutta Cup at Murrayfield when you've got a jock in the house!
(but please don't tell her I said that)

Likewise!
England did not look good though and did not look like scoring other than the chargedown from Hodgson. Scotland should have won but kept fluffing it in England's 22. It can't be often that a team loses with a stats advantage like they had.

And another! Insidious aren't they..?

I have a fine Scottish gent to rib stupid in the office tomorrow.
Did someone grease the Jocks hands?
For a very new team England defended well.

I'm not really afraid of her you know James. Boy was she sulky last night!
Two narrow victories against the weakest opposition in the Six Nations with only two tries scored - both from charge downs. England do not look like they can score a try that they have created themselves. They barely broke the gain line today. Losing Youngs definitely improved matters though.
I cannot see England getting any more points in this competition.
Can't help but agree.
I hope Youngs is just going through a bad patch rather than his star waning.
Flood back from injury today at Exeter. Even making allowances for possibly not being 100%, his kicking still doesn't impress. Again, hope it's just another short term thing.
After finishing top of the Premiership Table 2011, funny that both should go off the boil over the course of the RWC 2011 and summer training beforehand...

Right
Quick question to those that know. Why is it OK for a player (the Italian No 10) to wear gloves? Seems to me it confers a considerable advantage on a slippy day.
Bruce
What on earth is going on in the six nations - I refer to the fiasco last evening outside Paris. Given the numbers of fans involved and the distances travelled and costs incurred by both sets of fans, how could the organisers have got that one so badly wrong? Cancelling the Ireland France match 7 minutes before scheduled kick off is scandalous. It's not like the weather was a surprise - it's been on the radar for days that temperatures would be sub zero. Hopefully the six nations body will volunteer (or be made to) dig very deep and fully refund one and all fans' expenditure.

Why didn't they play it earlier? There were no other matches to clash with.
BigH - suspect TV = the answer. It was outrageous to call a game off that late (a local club fixture perhaps OK) but not something of this standing.
Vis Youngs, he plays like he wants to run all the time and his pace of delivery from rucks and scrums is often too slow at this level. He takes one or two strides and then passes - classic schoolboy (error) stuff.

Not sure that gloves would be seen as an advantage as you would possibly loose touchy feely sesitivity of the ball if that makes sense Bruce.....
