interesting or NOT so correct article, love my vinyl and my NDX - I am sure I am not alone I like the quality of the record just as much as it being played on my system

YouGov........i think you must of asked the wrong focus group

in summary

Market research company YouGov has released the results of a new study into the demographics of vinyl buyers in 2016, and the results are almost hilariously predictable.

The recent surge of interest in vinyl has led to supermarkets and chains stocking the decades-old format again after abandoning it in the 1990s, but contrary to a US study last year that has under-25s making up half of the punters, this UK study shows a different demographic. YouGov’s research actually puts the age range of the majority of vinyl buyers between 45 and 54, with 18 to 24-year-olds least likely to buy their albums on wax.

Even more interestingly, the YouGov study looked even further into the lives of the vinyl buyer, finding that they are more likely to be music obsessives, with 66% of them saying they couldn’t get through the day without listening to music, compared to 49% of UK adults in general. Unsurprisingly, they’re not fans of music piracy either – 59% of vinyl buyers said that downloading music illegally is wrong.

As if we needed any confirmation, the study also revealed that vinyl obsessives are lonely introverts – 56% of them prefer to keep their feelings to themselves and a whopping 69% enjoy being alone. Good thing they’ve got that rare

Some will be and most will know there is no such construct as 'must of'!

That's nonsense: I buy hardly any vinyl.

Well, I am old and an introvert. I don't live in the same house as my girlfriend, but I wouldn't say I am lonely!

I invite visitors to stay and listen but most have many other things to do with their time and music is background driving time. Yes, I sit here by myself with a system  at BMW levels, sip a drink and soak in the art and the history. It stimulates memories, colors, textures and emotions.  I'm not lonely!!!

Yes - the fault in the logic is equating people who are quite happy being on their own to people who are lonely.

On the contrary, lonely people are people who are NOT happy being on their own!

I was 13 when I bought my first record with my own money. I haven't stopped buying. Yes, I have to my fix every day, but I did at 13.

Introvert and lonely No.

and so what if they are - perhaps vinyl gives some of these types of people a sense of satisfaction and comfort? I am not sure i see the point in the statement.. we are all different.

My twenty-one year old niece is coming to stay with me next week so I can buy her a stack of vinyl, part II of her present. Her brother bought her a Technics SL1200, Onkyo amp and Dali speakers, sounds good.

Being honest with myself, I'd say this study is 60% accurate. I'd like to be able to share my music with the rest of my family (parents & sister who live in another town) have never been interested.

I do know of a couple of women in their 30's into vinyl so there is hope. I'e like it if the kids who queued up on Record Store Day to buy the latest limited editions were spinning their purchases rather than collecting them as ornaments or selling online.
