How set Audirvana for native DSD streaming to Naim DAC

Posted by: Wotan on 12 August 2016

From firmware update 4.11.8, Naim DAC is now able to play DSD files via S/PDF or USB inputs.

For S/PDF input, I use Audirvana player. I don't know how I must set Audirvana for native DSD streaming. Can you help me with this?

Thanks

Preferences > Audio System > Active Audio Device > Native DSD Capability > DSD over PCM standard 1.1 (or 1.0)

Thanks Andyl.

With this configuration I don't receive audio signal.

Maybe I should mention that I use a hiFace EVO Two (usb to s/pdf bridge). Is there any other setting necessary?

Evo only supports DSD on its I2S output and not on the SPDIF.

Check the specifications of the EVO.

Supported formats include PCM up to 384kHz (on I²S only, up to 192kHz on all other outputs) and DSD up to 256x (on I²S only)

Check if it outputs DSD64?

Yes, You are right... It's possible connect the EVO with the Naim DAC trough I2S? (I do not know if it's a stupid question)

I2S is special interface designed for very short distances where the clock signal is decoupled from the data signal. The NDAC for the most part on its e ter all interfaces uses SPDIF, where the clock is superimposed onto the signal. Internally I believe the streamer's and NDAC use i2s ro couple between the digital filter and DAC chipset.

No, it's not possible. There is no external I2S input on the nDAC.

Then, is not possible play native dsd with a mac mini and a nDAC? Is there any other device (non EVO) that can play native dsd through spdif?

There are many ways to get DSD to the Naim DAC via SPDIF, search the forum will come up many posts.

One way is to make Audirvana+ to output DSD64 to the Gustard U12, i.e Mac Mini -> USB B -> Gustard U12 -> SPDIF -> Naim DAC
