Hard Wire Uniti 2

Posted by: trevshan on 15 August 2016

Not a boffin so please excuse the query!

I have been trying to hardwire my Uniti 2 to my BT Home hub but although the menu says its hard wired the next line tell me its not connected. I have tried a different cable and cleared back to factory settings but still the same.

Any ideas welcome please!

It should say "Not used -wired" against the Wireless option in the Uniti setup menu ( wrench symbol from remote and then scroll down to Network Settings (although the exact wording may depend on the firmware version you have, but this is what my SuperUniti says . You should select DHCP in the same list to yes. I would try switching the Uniti 2 off and on again.  If that doesn't sort it, then you could also try restarting the Home Hub and wait until it has fully restarted and settled before turning the Uniti 2 on.

Hi -

I'm assuming none of your network services (streaming from your home UPnP server or internet radio, for example) are working, so you're pretty sure that in spite of having an Ethernet cable plugged into your router at one end and your Uniti at the other... sorry if I've misunderstood!

In the settings menu (wrench icon on handset remote), you can scroll to "factory settings" (last item) then choose "status" and you should be able to scroll and spot information related to your network connection including IP address (assigned by your Home Hub router), security (should say "wired network" rather than WPA or some other wireless security protocol) and possibly some others. This info can help you diagnose your network connection status.

Also note that if you are moving from a wireless to a wired connection, you must power cycle the Uniti since wired connection availability and negotiation happens only once at power up and there is no way to force a second attempt (unlike wifi where you can manually trigger a re-scan for available networks).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response guys. Have tried starting from factory reset and still no good.

Have looked at the settings Alan (it's not set-up for anything else in the house) and all it shows for the router IP address is 0.0.0.0 - similar for mask (whatever that is!). It does say wired for security status.

I guess it just isn't picking up the router info at all. It has no problem recognising the wireless signal from the same router though.

Naim suggest it might be a faulty connector on the Uniti..

I'm concerned about the missing IP address;   Look on the BT hub web page http://192.168.1.254 > Advanced Settings > Home Network & it will show a schematic of the connected network;  does the Uniti show??  If it does it should work.

If not: check BT hub is set to DHCP;  Advanced Settings>Home Network>IP Addresses>DHCP Server -  Enable = Yes.     Then re-check that the Uniti is set to DHCP in the display menu, then turn the Uniti off,   reboot the BT hub ((off- wait 5 - turn on & let it finish its complete restart process))   then restart the Uniti.   Now does the BT hub see it ??   if not is back to Naim I'm afraid.

Thanks Mike.

Followed the links and there is no Uniti showing. The DHCP is ticked as ON when I have followed your links as well.

It showed my sonos bridge connected ok so I removed that, used the same cable to try it with the Uniti  (just in case) and the same router connection port and did a full factory reset and router reset as you suggested - still not showing!

Guess I need to take it to a naim dealer and see what happens when they try setting it up.

Thanks again for the response - may not have got the Uniti hard wired but learned a few things.

Cheers

Only other thing I can suggest is that you give the Ethernet plug that is going into your Uniti a good hard shove. I have a laptop which feels like the plug is in, but it isn't until you push hard and then it clicks in a bit further and works fine.

Might be worth trying another cable if you have one around,  a cheepie/freebie is OK to check

Thanks Mike - tried 3 already including one I know is ok as it is used with a sonos bridge. Dealer has suggested that the BT home hub might be the issue so heading off to try it with my daughters router....phew!

There are likely lights on either side of the Ethernet jack on the back of the Uniti; likely a red one on the right and a green one on the left. when you plug in, they should blink as the protocols for establishing a connection take place. The red one will likely stay lit in success; the green one will likely blink indicating traffic.

An all-zero address isn't even a fail, so something is wrong. The mask, which should also be assigned automatically on a successful DHCP connection, should be 255.255.255.0 (don't worry what this means; it is a way for "local" traffic within your home intranet to be handled separately from "non local" traffic, eh to or from the Internet (and sent by your router in / out through the modem portion of your home hub)

a service call is likely your next step after so much good detective work what with changing cables (and routers!) and power cycling and the factory reset.  not much else for you to try on your own at this point .

Thanks again Alan. Have tried with another router and different broadband provider and no change. It picked up wireless no problem.

Both lights flash for a short period the both go off and stay off.

Checked subnet and its exactly what you have said.

Gonna try naim helpline again tomorrow and see if they can be a bit more helpful. Otherwise back to the dealer which will be a pain!

Thanks for support response. Uniti returned to dealer who couldn't connect!

Uniti now with Naim so hoping for a quick resolution from them.
