Can some one tell me the weight of an olive Nait 2, I have to organise shipping.

Many thanks.

Shipping to you Mark?

Yes Chris, I've got an Olive Nait 2 on route to me, magical little amp.

Cheers,

Mark

I agree completely - my Olive Nait 2 is a little gem

Have fun

Yes

Begs question why Naim have never built a more involving single box amp since..

Maybe they've lost the knack

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by analogmusic

but they did, and it was the original Nait XS

I don't get all the enthusiasm over CB and Olive, the black boxes are better, and the DR amps even more so.

Olive is good value for money used, but that is it.... ?

You just need to put an Integrated (any of the ones mentioned above will do) back into the system when you've moved what you think is a long way up the tree.

You may not have got as far as you think...

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by Mark J

XS better than Nait 2?

Mate, you're dreamin...

A deaf, disabled goat could pick the difference in 0.02 seconds

If you disagree you've never heard what a Nait 2 can do. Simple as  that

Analogue, you have never owned one as far as i'm aware (correct me if i'm wrong), so how come you are so sure. Perhaps you just 'believe' name would not go backwards………

Here we go again.........

(A CB Nait 2 owner)

Or to put it another way....

The Nait 2 is a little marvel that is so musical (within it's restraints) and engaging. If you don't need to feel it in your chest, say no more.

To quote someone...

"I'll never miss a beat, I'm lightning on my feet
And that's what they don't see mmm, that's what they don't see mmm
I'm dancing on my own (dancing on my own), I'll make the moves up as I go (moves up as I go)
And that's what they don't know mmm, that's what they don't know mmm

But I keep cruising, can't stop, won't stop grooving
It's like I got this music in my body saying it's gonna be alright"

Did I really just quote TS? Someone save me!!!

They can't create an original Nait 2 as many parts are no longer available

Superb amp BTW partnered with the right speakers its the best Nait ever (IMO)

Rumours are, back in the days, employees did create a more powerfull intg amp during a few days when Julian was away, he came back and all admitted it sounded bad. At that time it was all about performance.

During the coming decades they created more powerfull amps, Nait 3, 5, 5i, XS, Qute, Uniti, Supernait (dare I say where is the super")

forgive my ignorance, but after hearing almost all of the Naim range, I don't buy into this idea that one Nait 2 sounds more musical than all the current black boxes, especially the new DR ones.

Sorry - we are in 2016, and paying 800 GBP for a Nait 2 isn't a good financial decision. 15 watts seriously limits the kind of 2016 real world speaker choice. As I remember, a Nait still needs a speaker isn't it?

I remember when Mangomonkey shipped one all the way from Europe, I need to ask him if he still has it, and if not, then why not ?

I also remember a certain forum member who said the Nait 5i was the next best thing after 552/500

Apologies to the OP (I just reacted to Mark J's comment : "maybe Naim lost the knack of building a better Nait"). Yeah Naim who created the Nait 2, wouldn't know how to build better products ???

The 009 transistors are better now, the DR PSU regulators are better, yet we are expected to believe the old Nait 2 built 30 + years ago is better than a Nait XS ?

Congratulations to Gaius on the Nait 2

Maybe you should not use the b&w805 or Dynaudio in your hearing

Maybe you should not believe in everything other members say

Offcourse you are entitled to think you like the black stuff best, its just sometime I doubt judgement are created very serious

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by analogmusic

Nothing wrong with my Dynaudios. and if you think so, then, you got some unusual musical taste, as Naim and Dynaudio sound fantastic together. I do agree with your view of B&W, so I sold them on quite a while ago.

maybe, as someone said, you are a dealer of second hand Naim kit , as all you seem to post on this forum for many years is how great olive and CB is compared to the black classic kit of today.

Anyway I would rather much pay 800 GBP for a used UnitiQute 2 which has a built in streamer, DAC and at least has 30 watts to drive some speakers like Neat Iota properly along with a modern, better amplifier.

Seriously Analogue, you do make me laugh. Carry on spending your money by 'listening' to specifications…. End of.

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by analogmusic

you can laugh all you want gary, I trust my own ears, and I know what to spend my money on.

I am very happy with my system today, and if you think that my musical reference of Cd555/ 552/500 is the wrong one, then we got different ideas of what the Naim sound is, which is ok.

All this olive talk, i heard an NDX/102/180 once and while the 102 and 202 aren't exactly the best preamps by any measure I was shaking my head at all the forum nonsense over the years, and sorry anyone who says olive and CB is better than Black, I got nothing to say to that, except, Naim has moved on, but these people haven't.

I'll bet you still like old 35 mm film don't you

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by gary yeowell

You don't trust your own ears, you've never heard them, just regurgitate forum opinion like it's from experience.

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by analogmusic

Don't need to hear it, Naim has moved on, otherwise they would still be making it, if it were that good.

After hearing, ownign and enjoying  the 250 DR, why would I need to bother with hearing a 30 year old Nait?

So now what gary you're going to tell  me I wasted my money on 282/250 DR and should have bought a Nait 2 instead

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by gary yeowell

So there we have it, decision made using your own ears (your words), without actually ever hearing it. I can't take a single word of yours seriously i'm afraid.

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by analogmusic

one important thing I learnt on this forum is not to take anyone that seriously as we all hear music differently.

Sometimes understanding the underlying technology is enough to make decisions though

I bought the 250 DR just without being able to hear it, no chance at that time, and also my Dynaudio focus 260 speakers, and bought turned out to be very good for me.

The newer black kit from 2002 has better microphonic isolation, the resistor lift and decoupling, and the temperature control lozenges (all innovated from the Nap 500). It is easily audible as there it is less harshness

Maybe some of the old fashioned folks like that older sound which is allegedly apparently more exciting

I remember though you didn't like the HCDR that much, you did say it did hi-fi very well, but that was it.

I do completely disagree with you, the HCDR is better than the older Hicap, so we have different ideas of the "Naim sound"

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by badlyread

So an opinion without hearing a Nait 2? So why do so many people love the shoebox then?

Epiphany coming your way when you get around to it (if you will let yourself).

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by analogmusic

How many people? Why aren't those people selling their Supernait 2/CB250 , NAP 250 DR, 300 DR and 500 DR for the old shoebox then?

I like my Dynaudio X16 and Focus 260 speakers and they are 4 ohm loads, how loud can the little 30 year old Nait 2 drive them without shutting down or running out of steam?

and before anyone says SL2, I can't find any pair for sale?

Just because it's 'newer' doesn't necessarily make it better every time.

Vinyl/Cd springs to mind

Gave me a laugh with the banter though!

Just enjoy the music.
