Nait 2

Can some one tell me the weight of an olive Nait 2, I have to organise shipping.

Many thanks.

Regards,

Mark

that is not a relevant comparison

the newer LP12 are better than those made 40 years ago.

But for some people, old is gold, what can I say.

The Nait 2 is a terrific sounding amp within its limits.  But a Nait 5 is a rather substantial improvement; to say nothing of an olive 72/140 or a CB 62/140.

So there we have it, decision made using your own ears (your words), without actually ever hearing it. I can't take a single word of yours seriously i'm afraid.

Either can I, and that votes for years

Back then his refernce was an iphone as source

He continue to use marketing crap about those 009 transistors copy paste is easy, reading and refer to other members opinion is easy, having his own opinion is hardly seriously, now he suddenly don't rate the 202 and B&W's - those he raved about for years without having other references..its a laugh honestly.

You got all your facts wrong

the 009 transistors are not marketing crap. You have a very disrespectful attitude towards naim

strange for a second hand naim wheeler dealer

started with an iPod not an iPhone as funds were limited but bought good sources like dac v1 and now chord hugo

i still miss my b&w 805 but Dynaudio are better

nothing wrong with a 202 but 282 is better !

i can understand you don't like people who encourage others to try the new naim kit like 250 or 300 DR as it hurts your business

maybe try to sell the new kit instead ?

Ha ha, it wasn't a 'comparison' but a comment that sometimes just because something is newer doesn't make it better. And that comment will always be correct.

Read the post properly

I think it's time to calm down here.  I think we can all agree that the little shoe-box Naits are still loads of fun to listen to - the passing of time has not changed that fact, except perhaps for those that are well past badly needing a service.

I own both a very early NAIT as well as a fully Naim rebuilt CB NAIT2.  Love them both.  However, they complement the bigger Naim systems rather than replace them.  They are great within their limits, but those limits are, er...  a bit limiting sometimes.  Could I live with one of them as my only amp?  Maybe, but having had the NAIT2 in the main system for a few weeks last year, I'm now not so sure I could (I need more inputs and tape loops for one thing).  I guess I sometimes like to listen fairly at fairly high volume and here in particular the shoe-box NAITs fall down, even driving a fairly easy load like my SL2s.  A NAIT5i would be a much better bet, if a NAIT it is that you desire.

I remember listening to R&D's own NAIT2 (the one that had to be locked away so it wouldn't "disappear") against the prototype NAIT5i.  It's a testament to the NAIT2 that Steve used it as something of a benchmark during development of  the NAIT5i.  I felt that the production NAIT5i captured much of the spirit of the NAIT2 but went so much further when it came down to driving ability, ability to play loudly etc..  If there was a sacrifice it was perhaps that it was a little less sweet and lyrical at lower volume levels, but as in all things in hifi, particularly where there's a budget involved,  it's a choice of trade-offs wherever you go and you have to make choices.

I've removed some posts.  Keep it civil, please.

I'm not interested in what others do, but you obviously are.... Like i said, come back to me when you have something meaningful to say about imagery without resorting to technical aspects. Oh and yes, the D810, i know it well, just like i know top end Phase backs, but i choose to shoot film for reasons you likely would not be interested in as they can't be measured.

Hmmm - ok so what do you think of Plasma vs OLED?

And if you had to choose one projector to watch movies at home what would it be?

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by gary yeowell

Genuinely, go read some more books. I'm not interested in your opinions of projectors and tv screens.

C'mon Gary, the answer's easy - it's the latest one with the best technical specifications!

oh dear, Gary is Angry.

Angry Gary, hope you won't mind this from the wall.

"Wrong, Do it again!"

have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"
"You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still laddy!"

Ok, so you have nothing meaningful to say about imagery. I thought so. Let's move on.

Reminds of a Naimee that I told how I thought the NAIT 2 had better low level resolution than the 72/HC/250 setup he was listening to (at low volume). He almost shot me! I never told him that I ran both systems at home at the time! I would have invited him to hear it for himself, but he really took it so badly that I got frightened! It is only audio (I hope!)

Vintage gear is nice, owning part of history, it is like a classic car, still ofers a good ride, it may have a certain aura when you drive it, you may find it better than driving a brand new one, but it doesnt make a better car than a brand new one i guess

ı would like to have a 60s benz, and naim shoebox set up as a second car and as a second system if i got the spare money but now 272/300dr and a new benz - company car -

Actually i tried to buy a pre/power Naim set in Turkey but they were more expensive than my 200s! Boxed, one owner, like new, so i gave up!

cd vs turntable is another debate!

But i would not breake a heart over this

peace!

Emre, I admit I have an agenda here.

I'm trying to get people to visit their dealers and spend some money on a DR amp.

good to stimulate the economy.... there is just too much nostalgia on this forum.

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by Emre

Lets buy both to keep everyone happy, i wish i had the chance to listen Naim classics

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by analogmusic

me too, but I don't live in UK, and I'm not going to pay 800 GBP + shipping and taxes to find out how good is Nait 2.... .

Maybe my loss, but I'm happy where I am with Naim. And I got those current hungry Dynaudio Focus 260 (4 ohm) speakers to drive.

(and a very expensive 8000 GBP Chord Dave on my shopping list)

Much as I love my olive Nait 2 I can't see it ousting my amps from my main system

Posted on: 22 August 2016 by Mark J

What amuses me about this thread is why anyone would take a position of " no it's not" on an amp that they admit they've never heard..

I've never heard a Nait 2 and suspect I never will, but I'm definitely with on hankering after a 60s Benz. A 280SE coupe or cabriolet  would do very nicely indeed!

Didn't the original poster just want the weight of the amp ?  !!......then all hell broke lose !

Haven't heard the Nait 2 but did have a Nait 1 back in 1984.I  concur with what Richard Dane says basically you know that you can get a better sound with pre and power but its still a hugely enjoyable sound.I was using Kans with it and you knew at 15 watts it was on the limit when cranked up to 3 o'clock on the volume. An absolute classic audio product.Backed up by their high 2 nd hand value......tasty !

It's only Hifi guys, just a means of listening to music and really not worth getting heated about.  Listen to the kit, pick which you prefer and use it to get closer to your music.  What everyone else uses shouldn't really matter and there are way better things to argue about.

Yep. It's not as if it's footie for goodness sake!
