Connecting an Audio Technica LP5 to a Naim NAC92

Posted by: AndyW5 on 24 August 2016

Hi I have a Naim NAC92 system and just got an Audio Technica LP5, but the turntable sounds very distorted when i play it with the pre amp switched on, if i switch it off its very quiet. I have it connected through the AUX channel.
is this type of pre amp player compatible or should i need to get another type of pre amp made by Naim.

Let me get this right; you are connected to input 1 (the RCA phono input) on the NAC92.  First question - do you have any phono boards fitted to this input?

Your LP5 has a choice of line out (thus using its own internal phono stage) or a regular phono out into an external phono stage.  If your NAC92 is fitted with appropriate phono boards (NA522 MM boards should be perfect for the AT95 on the LP5) then use the latter.

However, if no boards then using the LP5s internal phono stage into any of the line level inputs on the NAC92 should be fine.  If you're getting distortion but using other line level sources and all is fine then it might indicate a problem with the internal phono stage in the LP5.
