CDX with a 52?

Posted by: mikeybaby on 24 August 2016

Hello all,

I am considering a CDX as a source in my 52/250/SBL/Rega DAC/Sony Blue ray system. Is this player worthy of such a fine system? I rarely listen to Cds anymore as it is much easier and cheaper to stream. But occasionally I miss having a Naim cd player because of their unique sound and since these bring back fond memories of the 90s. It is very reasonably priced too. Should I grab it or just stick with what I have?

Can you try it at home first, Mikey?

I'd use the cash to improve the Rega Dac. Why buy something you will never use?

Grab it, it might provide better source sound than you allready have..?

Another option buy a cd-transport to use into the excellent Rega Dac, maybe an Apollo or maybe the new Cambridge CXC ?

You might find you wish to play disc more often afterwards ?

I tried the Naim DAC V-1 and liked the Rega better. Warmer fatter sound with less glare and a 3rd the price. Is there something better that you recommend?

Agree, the RegaDac is superb and value for money

I use the Apollo/Rega Dac myself and intend to listen with CXC added, later on this year

We have a CDX with an 82/olive Supercap/250 in the family and was fine, though it became much, much better when we put an olive XPS on the CDX.  As neither the CDX nor the olive XPS (or even a black XPS2) are expensive any more, I would be tempted to go for it and look out for an XPS + the black Burndy.

Hope this helps, FT

CDX/52 will be fine, although you'll be itching to add an XPS as soon as you can.  Not because the CDX isn't very good - it is - but because the XPS bumps it up a couple of rather significant steps.
