Smart Meters and mains quality

Valhalla is due an 'upgrade'. Has anyone noticed a difference in performance post meter change?

You don't have to accept one and even if fotted they can be set to dumb mode, check out citizen's abvice or Which.

Would be interesting to hear if anyone has experienced any detriment from one and whether they have a dedicated radial for their system.

Had a Smart electric meter fitted about 12 month ago the system is on a separate spur couldn't hear any difference.

Smart Gas meter fitted Bacon still tastes the same on the gas hob.

I started a Smart Meter thread a few weeks ago - https://forums.naimaudio.com/topic/smart-meters-uk

The meter technology is more or less unchanged for years,  so nothing changed with  'lecy supply impedance & audio SQ. My concern was more about the RF communication aspect & possible interference - Smart Meters use a wireless system called ZigBee & that uses the same 2.4GHz frequency blocks as domestic wireless (wifi)   But fear not,  the millisec ZigBee burst are not a problem & are so weak I can't have the meter in a location of my choice.  Naim SQ is as good as ever & I don't detect any change in the gas heated water temperature either.

Another thing that has not changed is the service provider,  meters might be SMART but they sure are DUMB

It seems amazing that they are rolling out this programme yet if you change
energy provider your smart meters might not work with your new provider
seems to have been cobbled up by some highly paid government department.

Cheers guys. We have had a smart leccy for some time, and all has been okay. System is on a dedicated spur. But they are changing the gas and updating the leccy.

Yeti, how can we set to 'dumb mode'? Do we need Thor to wield Mjölnir?!

Its just what I read on Which, the early ones only worked with one supplier and went dumb if you switched to another, later ones are meant to keep working. Not sure you can make it dumb yourself, you can bet the industry won't  tell you how but they might swap it out for a dumb one if asked and for a fee.

It will be fun when the hackers get going on these and any smart appliaces you might happen to buy.

Okay Yeti. I thought you were saying there was an post-fitted option of dumbing down the 'smart' meter!

Thanks Mike, and sorry if I'm repeating here, although I think the slant is subtly different as  my specific query is about whether anyone has experienced actual deleterious effects rather than theoretical.
