Muso Wired or Wireless

Posted by: Sutts on 26 August 2016

Hi everyone, I'm new to Naim but have been told great things about the people on the forums so here goes! ...

When I first set up my Muso I connected everything wirelessly and ran that for a few days, then I plugged the ethernet cable into both the router and the Muso. It works fine but how would I know if the connection is actually wired or wireless, which one is active? Don't think the LED light gives this away?

I either stream from my MAC (UPNP) - as the MAC is wireless, would the Muso still play at the higher quality rate (presuming that the MUSO is using the ethernet connection that is)? Or limited to 48kHz ?

Most tracks I play through Tidal are Flac 44khz ... 16bit? - I don't have any 24 bit music but what do you guys think, would there be a noticeable difference in sound quality through the Muso?  I take it that sort of quality is not available by Tidal - any suggestions where I look for content?

Thanks,

Paul

As I understand it, the wired connection automatically takes over. I wouldn't worry about high res, though Tidal are looking into doing it. Qobuz do high res streaming but the Naim streamers cannot handle this without extra equipment, which rather defeats the point of the Mu-so.

24bit recordings that I consider superior to their 16bit siblings on the big system also sound better on our MuSos and QB. Our QB has difficulty with 24/192 wireless but handles  24/96 and below wirelessly without difficulty. A lot of  it  will depend on signal strength and that sort of thing and it's always best if you can wire it, which as stated above will automatically become the default connection if available.

Tidal doing 24/48 and higher? That's going to be interesting. The more the merrier. I wonder what they'll charge for that?
