Chance to upgrade

Posted by: Stu22 on 29 August 2016

Hi everyone.

Looking for some initial steer please.  Usual dem of all options will be scheduled.

Current rig - N272/XPS DR/250 DR/Kudos C20 .... No Powerlines and using NAC A5 speaker cable.

Really enjoy my system but have got a few quid set aside for an upgrade. I don't see the need to change speakers as I belive that they can handle a bigger set up if required. Do I really need PLs? I am sceptical about mains cables.

I am thinking about moving to the 300 DR amp (plus PLs.... Maybe) but wonder if I should follow the source first rule and go for a 555Ps? Def will be keeping the 272 so need to be mindful of system synergy and balance.

All comments very welcome.

i read this with interest, as I'm also tempted to update my 250DR to 300DR ... to get the black boxes sorted first.

Currently 272+555 into 250DR .. TQ UB --> Living Voice Avatar OBXR  (power cables are top end JPS labs, had em for a decade)

Speakers, mains etc are dependent on a potential house move in the next year or so but then again we might just stay put and do some house improvements.

If we stay put and refresh I'll sort out a dedicated mains, but today the downstairs current ring mains only feeds HiFi & TV plus a couple of table lamps, Kitchen is on separate ring.  so maybe not as compromised as some.??
stand wise its sitting on a cheap glass AV wide stand, so needs sorting.  looking at Quadraspire SVT rather than the Fraim

I like the TQ UB speaker cable over the NAC5, so could update the standard pre-power interconnect to match.

I understand 272 to 300 needs two cables, so better to get the right cable to match.

this was the best move I made

Do we have to match speaker cables with pre power interconnects? Now i am using SL speaker cables but willing to upgrade my xlr cables as well? So i am stuck with SLs?

2 cables to connect 272 to 300 .... Which ones and do they come as part of the package. Or is this an additional cost!?!

Stu - 2 x DIN4–XLR come with the NAP300 - I assume this is what you are refering to

INTERCONNECT LEAD, 4 PIN DIN TO CANNON

And the SL version, which is very good, will cost about £3k

Thanks guys. These in addition to the 300PS Burndy's? I have checked the connection guide and it looks like in total 4 cables are required .... All part of the cost I hope?

Yes, Stu. The ones in Chris Dolan's photo above come with the 300DR, plus two burndies and a mains cable)
