Directionality of Naim DC1 Cable
Posted by: Gavin B on 31 August 2016
I have a Naim DC1 cable and need to know whether it's BNC > Phono or Phono > BNC. The sheath at the BNC end has the writing 'Naim DC1' with the 'N' closest to the BNC plug. Does this confirm it as BNC > Phono?
Thanks
It'll work both ways round!
That's true but there must be a suggested direction as the Naim website talks about both BNC > Phono and Phono > BNC

Yes...but whether you notice a difference is a moot point.

Graeme, you may well be right but I need to know in order to describe the item for sale purposes
Than try this: signal direction is in the same way as you read the letters.

Yes.

Thanks, folks
Just to conclude this completely, Phil Harris replied to my email query, and confirmed that the 'source' end has the sheath with 'Naim DC1' on it.
I've always been curious as to what makes this 'digital' cable directional. Screening termination different at one end ?? - Anyone ?
Maybe someone has to listen to each one before they stick the shrink-wrap label on!

Nothing makes them directional. It's all nonsense.

David - didn't you spot those atoms forming a uni-directional pattern, inside those copper strands?
Actually I don't believe in cables running in either, but I'm not saying that if HH is listening, so keep it to yourself!

Crumbs, you have clearly not bought an SL din to XLR, which changes massively over the first few weeks. Saying that one doesn't believe in something is just foolish, and totally different from reporting one's findings based on real experimentation.
Actually I believe in cables burn-in and directionality. Even my bass guitar cables are always used the same way (same direction).
I can see a cable being directional if the design is such that a screening wire is connected to the negative at only one end, typically at the source end for grounded components. Can't say I've heard a difference flipping them around, but it would be an example where I'd believe directionality makes some sense.
