NCAA Football 2016

A new year of college football starts this Labor Day weekend. I know several here are avid followers and so thought I'd post a topic for us to cheer our teams, rant and rave, or drown our sorrows on a weekly basis. Hopefully we can keep a friendly thread running through the National Championship game.

I'm a life-long Buckeyes fan since back in the Woody days, so naturally abhor all things maize and blue. My son is a junior at Washington State University and I've enjoyed watching Mike Leach's Air Raid Offense there. Despite living in the Seattle area for the past 22 years, not much of a Huskies fan.

Let us know who you're rooting for and let's have some fun.

It's been a fantastic holiday weekend for CFB hasn't it? My five thoughts on week 1:

1. There was some sweat coming off ol' Rocky Top Thursday night as Tennessee squeaked by App St.. The Vols are wayyyyy overranked.

2. Nice to see college football at Lambeau. Strong showing by Wisconsin who have one of two impressive freshman QBs this year.

3. Charlie Strong's plans might be falling into place in Ausitn. He has the other impressive freshman QB, Shane Buechele, supported by senior QB Tyrone Swoopes. But Charlie, is there any defense at Texas?

4. The Buckeyes lost Ezekiel Elliott, Cardale Jones, Braxton Miller, and numerous other stalwarts to the NFL draft, yet unexpectedly could have a more consistent offense than last year. Curtis Samuel, Dontre Wilson, and Corey Smith should be a great supporting cast for J.T. Barrett. Sure, it's just one game in. Week 3 versus Oklahoma should be a good indicator.

5. Take Alabama out of the SEC and what are you left to speak of for that conference this year? I suppose another team will step up, just hard to say who at this point.

Glad to see Charlie Strong and Texas pull that one out vs. Notre Dame.    Glad to see the Hogs squeak by LA Tech.  Loved seeing Stanford beat Kansas State.  Both the Los Angeles teams lost to SEC opponents Alabama and Texas A&M.   Most of my nieces and nephews are Wisconsin alumni and they deserved to win over LSU.   Made me want to go to a game at Lambeau.

I hope to see Arkansas do better than expected in the SEC West with all the wimpy opponents you perceive.  And I hope to see Stanford roll up the PAC 12 and get into the 4 team National playoff.  Somehow I don't expect either to happen.
