Naim App and Rovi
Posted by: Kacper on 01 September 2016
since yesterday something strange happened with my naim app; every time when I'm trying to check the info about some albums - not all (metadata via Rovi) the app shuts down.
Is any one here who has this kind of experiance?
(Ipad mini 1st generation)
regards,
Kacper
Have you done a complete restart of the iPad and does the problem still occur? Have you recently updated the iPad's FW?
Just found out that new version of iOS is available 9.3.5, :-/ will install and check if this will help.
I'm gonna let you know if this will help. Thanks!
I would try the simple restart first, though I haven't had any issues with the Naim app after installing the new FW on any of my devices.
updating unfortunately didn't solve the issue. With the app in my iPhone no problems at all, only this old iPad :-/
The next thing I would try is deleting the app from your device and reinstalling.
I have tried and also didn't help :-/
But it's strange - some albums doesn't make any troubles, works fine .
I don't have an answer for the shutting down of the app, but once you get it sorted, download and install the Naim n-Serve app to your iPad, which will allow you to edit the missing metadata, including cover art.

On a Synology NAS??
"Hi,
Is it always the same albums that cause the same issue or does it vary with sometimes the same album looking up and sometimes crashing the app out?
We know that Rovi have been having some service issues recently and so we hope to release an updated app which will handle corrupted or partial Rovi responses but it's not clear whether that is the actual issue that you are having..."
this is the answer from Naim, so let's see if an updated app will fix the issue.
IF you had android tab it doesnt even offer it,
That's true - I do have also samsung mobile with naim app
Same behaviour noted here. Fine til yesterday.

I don't think this is the reason, in this article they say " 7% of the total number of music records in our catalog". In my case is at least 50/50.
I'm also having the same issue. Sometimes a booklet will appear for a second or two but the app will close by itself or as I tap on the booklet to open it. Other times the app closes immediately after I've tapped on the Rovi booklet icon in the now playing screen.
Basically Rovi has been unusable for the last couple of days now.
Am using version 4.8 of the naim app on my iPad 2.

A couple of days !!! Its been a bit useless for a long while, I just don't bother any more. Its a shame & even more so as its not really a Naim problem but they are getting some of the mud splash.
I haven't noticed any issues with Rovi over the last few days. Admittedly, the quality and availability if information on Rovi is pretty hit and miss, especially on less mainstream albums, but on balance, I quite like having it despite this.
Naim is busy with the update, hope will be released soon
I too have just encountered the same problem. I don't normally use it, but just wanted to research the artist and after about 3 seconds the app closed. Fortunately music replay wasn't affected.
Let's hope this can be resolved with the next update, although it wouldn't really seem a Naim issue as it used to work just fine.
It's happening to me as well from a week ago. Prior to that no problems and I had been using rovi regularly. Nothing in my set up has changed. Odd
Wish there was some way to incorporate pdf scans of the original booklets within the Naim app...

+1 on that, if only. .pdf's do hold a lot more detail, although I'm not that keen on the lyrics as I don't do sing-along, they do tend to have more of the kind of info I'm more interested in, e.g. who's the bass on track 3, (etc) Rovi has all the artists & contributors, but mostly all mixed up. Also the "review" of the album might be interesting, but I've bought the album & someone's opinion of how good it is after the event is irrelevant.
Boy you guys are tough. I would be happy if what we do have worked
