Naim App and Rovi

Posted by: Kacper on 01 September 2016

since yesterday something strange happened with my naim app; every time when I'm trying to check the info about some albums - not all (metadata via Rovi) the app shuts down.

Is any one here who has this kind of experiance?

(Ipad mini 1st generation)

regards,

Kacper

Or if the Android half of us would finally be offered what the others already have.

Has anybody yet brought this issue to the attention of Phil Harris formally in any way?

PS. Rovi lookup has started crashing for me too!

yes.. me

"Hi,

In that case we are aware of that issue with Rovi and the software guys are working with them on a “fix” – at the moment I do not know whether it is something that Rovi have broken and that they need to fix at their end or something that they have intentionally changed and that we need to implement support for but that is what the developers are working on.

Best Regards

Phil Harris"

Great, thanks.

Thanks for posting this guys, I've had the same issue and thought it may be the app not recognizing the iPad Pro properly as sometimes the information is briefly shown in iPhone format before it crashes. I was about to update ND5 firmware if it looked like I was on my own and if that didn't work I thought Twonky was the weakest link so I was also considering NAS upgrade.

Hi Guys,

Updated code has been in test for a week or so and I'm told that it is expected to be released to Apple very shortly...

Seems fine. But does anyone use a Style apart from black?

Rovi doesn't crash with the new app rev,  but is still "off" target,  seems to find some albums,  but not others.

Strange, Rovi never once crashed on me, and the number of albums it fails to find seems no worse than usual - there has always been the odd one with either no album info, or the wrong album altogether, but I haven't noticed any deterioration recently.

For me the app "crash" was just that the app just switched off (the iPad Home Screen appeared) & the music carried on playing.  Re-open the app & it was all normal again - except Rovi.

Rovi is still having trouble finding the right album when I tried it earlier,  OK maybe I tried it on too many of the more obscure albums,  but Bob Marley's "Legend" is shown as "The best of BM & the W",    & Beatles "Love" is Mary Wells "Love Songs to the Beatles"   hardly that obscure.

Rovi's ability to decipher metadata is completely hit and miss. If it picks up the artist data first for a newly added album then it seems to assume that it's a greatest hits album (if there is one).

I think the crashing issue was linked to the Sony Group change. Any Sony (CBS/Epic) albums would cause the app to crash but it would also do so if Rovi picked up the metadata incorrectly as a Sony group artist/album e.g. I've had albums by Rush initially picked up as Mahogany Rush (a Columbia/CBS artist) which crashed before I could change the artist/album.
