Apple IPhone 7 - who's upgrading?
Posted by: Tony2011 on 09 September 2016
I have just ordered the new iPhone 7. I usually upgrade every 3 years. Could not be bothered with the 5 sibblings or 6. I was going to buy a new one anyway as my iPhone 5 screen decided to detach itself from its main body.
Nothing major has caught my attention apart from the now defunct headphones socket.
I have never been a fan of their phones so won't miss a thing and hardly listen to phones on the go. I'm sure in in years to come they'll get rid of those prongs hanging down from your ears.
Has anyone else upgraded?
Sticking with my Nokia 3310 for the time being....................
My contract with O2 finishes on Oct 7th. I contacted them via live chat and gave them details of different cheaper offers that are available on the net. They tried various devious methods to keep me on as a customer, but wouldn't match the offers. So, I'll be cutting another garbage company out of my life and no doubt choose EE. In 2 years time, we'll see how they treat me.
Modern business eh?
Nope its been a good while since I had an iPhone for personal use and I can't see me going back. I have one for work purposes but I just bounce the calls to my personal phone. Changing charging and headphone ports isn't my idea of innovation. I'll stick with my S7 Edge.

I had a proper battle to get o2 to play ball last time, and now my contract has just ended, so roughly same timing as yours.
I travel a fair bit, so will prob go with 3 for their feel at home deal. But from what I can see of all the networks' offers, nowadays it seems to work out cheaper to buy a handset outright and get a sim-only deal. The handset subsidies ain't what they used to be.
also changed my home Broadband to EE a couple of years ago also very good
and my experience of the customer service is that it is streets ahead of my
previous supplier BT.

They've been good with me too - my 128Gb (not jet) black 7 Plus ended up being £50 (with another two year tie-in on my existing tariff) when I said I was looking at moving as my contract was up...
Coverage where I am in the New Forest is non existent unless I pop my phone on the window ledge but WiFi calling seems to work on the whole and I do also have a little femtocell as well that sits on my network and gives me my own little EE access point.
Phil
I've been considering jumping ship from 3 to EE for a while now, but I'm heavily dependent on WiFi calling, not just when I'm at home. The EE version only works on phones purchased from them, and I'm not prepared to ditch a perfectly good unlocked iPhone 6 just yet. It seems the flexibility of buying an unlocked phone has backfired on me.

My contract with O2 for my 5c came to a conclusion in August. I received several calls from them in the run up to this trying to sell me an 'upgrade'. Each time we established that I stay comfortably within my current data allowance and call minutes, yet on each occasion their 'deal' involved me paying the same for the phone as I would pay if I bought an upgrade from Apple or, say, John Lewis (so no subsidy) and expecting me to pay a higher monthly charge for extra calls and data that I plainly wouldn't use. The agents calling me seemed somewhat perplexed that I could do the maths while we spoke on the phone and, once I played the figures back to them, had to agree that they were actually offering me a worse deal than that one I was on! I was also rather irritated about the £40 they offered me for trading in my existing 2-yr old 5C. A cursory bit of research shows that's much less than half what it is really worth. So I'll probably stay with O2 for a while on the current data/call contract and buy a new i-phone outright but the experience has left me with an unhappy impression of a company prepared to dress up a new 'upgrade' contract for a customer as a 'good deal' that is no such thing.
CHRISSU, strange just checked my EE contract changed last year to SIM only using a Galaxay S4, renewed my SIM only deal earlier this year with EE. About three months ago I purchased an Unlocked Galaxy S7 just checked with EE and I do have WIFI calling included this also extends to the London Underground which living between Bristol and Bath I find extremely useful !!!!

EE clearly state on their website that this is the case. Digging a bit deeper, there is complete confusion on EE's forum about this, although some users reported that, like you, it will work. Maybe EE have out of date info on their website, or they're just trying to con people into buying phones from them?!

Exactly. They tried a few different dress ups, which all cost more than (or less data & calls) than I was already on. They must think everyone's a muppet.
I use calling through wifi a lot, but O2 TU Go is not that brilliant. Is EE wifi calling reliable?

I suspect O2's sales stats validate this marketing approach, implying that enough of their customers are either too busy/lazy to do the sums or are indeed muppets. It's a pity more companies don't adopt a more ethical sales approach. I'm sure that would pay dividends with more customer loyalty in the long-run.
Chris G posted:I've just upgraded to an iphone 7 128Gb in black. One major flaw in IOS10 - I turn off Siri (don't like it), which automatically turns on Voice Control (dislike this just as much). Now, when I press the home button too hard (very easy to do) voice control comes on. I've tried an online chat with Apple and they confirm you must have either Siri or Voice Control, neither isn't an option. This one feature is really spoiling the new iphone. I have given feedback about this to Apple, and during the online chat the person on the other end said a number of people have also complained about this.
I had exactly the same issue and I fixed it by going to Settings -> Accessibility -> Home Button and from the bottom, turn on the “Rest to Unlock” toggle - Voila.
I'm certainly less than impressed so far with IOS10.
Consolidated e-mails - just eurghh
Home button press v touch difference makes it nigh-on impossible just to unlock the phone (without trying to pay for something with apple touch, or getting Shitri instead).
Music - can't get to your own without having to decline wanting to buy theirs first (this "feature" I have managed to turn off)
Alarm clock deactivate v snooze.
Maybe I''m just an old git, but it all seems like a lot of unecessary changes for change's sake to me. So far at least.

Yup - agreed - I find them really annoying and difficult to navigate especially when a single email discussion gets split into sub-discussions.

I thought this was just me! I find it really difficult to unlock my phone at the moment and always seem to end up in the "News" page instead...

I don't use the Music app so I've been spared this...
rodwsmith posted:Alarm clock deactivate v snooze.
Yup ... We've gone from a simple "sideways swipe to cancel an alarm or randomly aimed poke to snooze" to having to swipe down on a notification and then avoid the "Snooze" option and hit "Stop" (which in itself seems hit-and-miss or is that because I'm still half asleep?)...

If so then add me to the "old git" pile too!

I think what you need is this...
Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button > switch on ‘Rest Finger to Open’.
Now with EE. The usual promise of transferring my number over by the next day after submitting the pac code never materialised.
EE's wifi calling is far better than O2 Tu Go. Clearer, instant connection with no delay at either end and better connection when away from home. EE general reception around Lancashire, Manchester and North Wales all better than O2.
I opted for the iPhone 6s Plus. Great size, fast processing and so far, no problems at all.
