NAC 282 / Hicap DR / NAP 200 Owners Who Are Considering The NAP 250 DR - Recommended

Posted by: ryder. on 10 September 2016

I have been on the NAP 250 DR for several months now and just recently swapped the NAP 200 back into the system which consists of the NAC 282 and Hicap DR. To reconfirm on my thoughts I reinserted the NAP 250 DR back into the system and listened again.

Much have been said earlier on the NAP 250 DR but I need to share this again. I cannot find the superlatives to describe the differences between the NAP 250 DR and the NAP 200. What I can say is the NAP 250 DR brings more realism in the music than the NAP 200. Everything sounds more real with the NAP 250 DR.

The NAP 200 may sound slightly more open and extended than the NAP 250 DR. The NAP 250 DR pulls it back a bit, giving the sound of instruments and everything more control and texture. Music sounds more refined with the NAP 250 DR for this added control. Higher level of refinement equates to higher realism in the music, and for this reason music sounds more real (with the 250 DR). The NAP 200 just throws everything out without much control.

It may take some effort to differentiate between the NAP 200 and 250 DR. The differences may appear insignificant at first, but after a while one would likely appreciate the level of refinement and realism the 250 DR is able to bring to the system. It is the small little details that count.

thanks Ryder, it's my plan to add a 250DR when I can, at present NDX,282, HCDR,200 - always likes the 200 and it does work well with the 282 - but looking forward to the 250DR day

You'd be wise to investigate the XPSDR first though.

Just in the process of home audition of XPSdr with my CDX2, hoping for the same result..

The XPS on CDX2 is really a significant upgrade,  you will be delighted I can assure you.

XPS on the NDX is a good upgrade,  but its not as significant as with CDX2

I assume from that the SL's are ticking all the boxes?

I've just been reading thread on SL's and their conclusions have been somewhat underwhelming?

How would you describe the improvements you are hearing?

1st off, excellent demo process, previous post on how do you demo, Dayjay nailed it, and you are dead on track.

If one hangs around the Forum long enough, certain statements becomes etched in stone.

The natural partner for the 282, theXps is an significant upgrade, source First, just to NAIM a few.

Speakers are personal, one man's meat, is another's man's poison.

 Krell/282/HCDR/250DR

As Mr Richard Dane has pointed out, what makes the 282 an Cracker, is it's forgiveness.

2007 CES debuts CD555/282/Snaxo/DBLS

Not suggesting an CD555, but perhaps it would take less effort to distinguish the difference between the 200, and 250DR, with it's little brother!

Down the road:

Cdx2/*555PS/282/HCDR/Your Meat

BTW, I think I recall your original post when HCDR and 282 was on order, nice Room.

I was trying to get you to do the SCDR, instead of the HCDR, easy spending the OP's Cash!

Good choice, you don't haft to contemplate, the more revealing, and less forgiving, 252!

Take Care!

Allante93!

Like Wenger, I have also read on this and other forums where people have not gone for SL speaker cables after extended listening. I'd listen to as much music as you can while you have the SLs then change back to the NACA5 and do the same again. Then ask yourself if you can/cannot live without the SLs. Is the music more real, more enjoyable with or without?

You might find a 555PS to be a better VFM upgrade.

When I swapped out NACA5 for TQB there was no hesitation. An immediate improvement in clarity. The music opened up, nothing too strident or too soft - perfect.

With the 250DR now in place the step-up over the 200 & 250.2 is made abundantly clear.

Graemeh, if you ever get the opportunity, you ought to try the TQ Ultra blacks, they are a real step up again .

Thanks wenger 2015 but that's where I draw the line. £4k is what I'd need to spend on speaker cable. I suspect, even If I won the lottery, I'd think twice. It just feels wrong.

Ultra blacks? Far too cheap and nasty. Silver diamond is where it's at. Sell a few photos, maybe the family car....

Laughably our family car sale wouldn't even cover the Ultra-Black!

Which photos?

Ah well, I'm sure the car is much more useful. I was assuming that you sell some of your photos.

Umm...no. I'm an architect and only very amateur photographer.
