Dedicated Mains installed

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to share my experience with installing a dedicated mains for my HiFi set :-) It consists out of Furutech wall socket (FP-SWS-G),  Pink Faun Power Cable 3x 5,3 mm2 and Siemens Sitor Fuse with 10x38 gold fuse from HiFi-tuning. It took not that much trouble to install it, as my Fuse box is just on the other side of the wall of my living. The only big challenge was to drill a hole in my 40 cm thick wall, but all went well. The Pink Faun cable is a tough cable to handle, but I tamed it ;-)

I have one wall socket which is connected to the standard Naim mains block, mains cables of my 272 and 250DR are the standard ones for the time being. Maybe upgrade sometime to powerlines and better mains block. Mains block also hold the my AV receiver, blu-ray player and Turn table (Project). Finally a real dedicated mains. The 'old' one had also some lights connected, plus my electrical roller blinds.

I am happy with the result, nice musical upgrade I must confess. It sounds just more lively and more surround sound. I wonder if it will improve during the coming weeks! Enclosed are some pictures. Enjoy!

Remember, of course, that every time to turn it off to change the fuse, the system will take a while to work at its full potential. Perhaps, as the sound effect is subtle, you'd be better just picking one and then forgetting about it. Getting each of your Naim boxes into a separate socket will, I suspect, have far more of an impact.

After listening a lot to different kinds of music I stayed with the gold plated fuse (it was supplied anyways) and forgot about it. Meanwhile I asked my electric guy to revert the connection of the consumer unit directly to the incoming wire. Maybe in the future I can install more wall sockets, but for the time being it's ok :-)

I read with interest the dedicated mains spur with interest, I used to have one in my last house with a Quad system and found the main improvement was to eliminate mains bourn clicks and pops

With my current Naim set up results would probably be greater and have been considering it due to the positive interest on these Forum pages

I wondered has any one picked a house next to a local sub station to get an even cleaner mains supply, our local substation is about 400 metres away with many houses closer than my system, no doubt introducing all sorts of interference!

I think I'm pretty lucky in as much that I have my own transformer (the size of two large dustbins) straight off the (pylon) high tension supply running past my property. This then comes directly (no other properties involved) via a dedicated cable to my distribution kiosk next to the house and is then split into a supply for the system and a supply for the house. The audio supply still uses the old standard barrel fuse, which I think sound much better than trips. I then had the electrician run 6m2 cable to three double MK wall sockets. The result is brilliantly pure mains, which seems to have added levels of detail and clarity when compared to plugging things into the regular house ring-main - even though this is still pretty pure.

There is a downside; it cost me a small fortune to have the property connected to the national grid but without power life would be very dull!
