HDX-SSD WI-FI connection

How exactly can this be connected using wi-fi tethering from mobile smartphones at least for partial functions not necessarily for NAS ? In other words for playing computer files or internet radio for example.

If you have an Airport Express, it's childsplay

The basic streaming network connection is as follows (picture courtesy of Mike-B):

Presumably if your NAS is connected to the network, your HDX SSD must also be connected to the same network (since it's an SSD version there is no other option). Your network should also have an open internet access for the HDX to function properly.

So acceessing internet radio should be possible.

However - if you would like to connect it to a WiFi network it is not possible as far as I know - HDX has no WiFi module.

Thanks. This is the main idea no WIFI module within HDX-SSD but no problem I've got plenty of storage sticks to keep myself busy until the day I decide to get a wired connection. For a while I had thought that wireless might do nearly as much as wired or that there were some other unknown to me ways of connecting.

If you can put your NAS close enough to the HDX to give them a wired connection that will get you up and running. Connect them both via a switch, and connect an Airport Express or similar to the same switch so that you can control the HDX using the iOS N-Serve app. Unless your NAS is a long way away, making cabling difficult, this is cheap and easy to set up, and it's going to be a lot nicer to use than loading up memory sticks.

I used to use a wireless bridge which I assume is similar to the Airport. The HDX was wired to the bridge as was the NAS. The only need to use the wireless facility was to keep it all visible on the network and internet access for album look up when ripping. It served me reliably until I got around to running a cable into the lounge.

The Airport Express did this for me, but still needs a switch, as it only has a single Ethernet port.

Ah right. IIRC I used a Buffalo wireless bridge which had four Ethernet sockets in the back of it. It was set up with a direct wired connection to my main PC then unplugged and moved to it's wireless location. A very easy process. Easier than I expected.
