Hello folks
Need help to determine what superline air plugs to use with my ortifon kontrapunkt b cartridge
Hello folks
I am currently using a 1k resistance plug and a 4.7 nf campatance plug
Finding there's to much lower end .I must add that the superline is still breaking in .
Specs for kontrapunkt b are as follows
Internal impedance, DC resistance - 5 Ohm
Recommended load impedance - 5-200 Ohm
Output voltage at 1000 Hz, 5cm/sec. - 0,47 mV
Also it was suggested that I maybe better off just powering phono stage with my power auxiliary out put of my 52 preamp as opposed to powering it with my separate high cap.
52 is being powered by a super cap.
Any knowledgeable input is greatly appreciated

Why would removing the HiCap be an improvement? In my experience the addition of a power supply has always been a positive step. Removing the HC may take away some of the lower frequencies but it will also remove some of the resolution and timbre.
Before removing the HC I would check the arm (VTA) and cartridge are correctly set up and then play around with the tracking force. I usually start by setting the tracking weight to the middle of the range before tweaking by ear. Once I'm happy with the sound I check to see the tracking force is still within the recommended parameters.

When I had a 252 I tried powering the prefix from both the 252 and a separate Hicap. It's certainly worth trying the connection to the powered aux socket, as it will sound different, and there is no guarantee which you'll prefer.
It's worth noting, Steve, that by connecting to the 252 the Superline is getting supercap rather than Hicap power, which ought to be better. But of course the supercap is then powering both the 252 and the superline, so it's spread a bit more thinly. I always found it a case of swings and roundabouts.

I couldn't get on with the hicap powering the superline directly, even with a 282, AUX2 was livelier so take the hicap out to start with. The superline will take a while to settle down and your loading preference will drift a bit as this happens. Mine did even though it was ex demo and my preference went from 560+1nF to 470R + 470pF on a 17D3. There is a report reccommending 1kR for the b somewhere and I think no cap plug. Why not rry it bare (=10kR) to start with and if it's a little sharp try a cap plug if 1kR is too thick sounding. When you're happy with the sound on AUX2 reintroduce the hicap and see what you think.
If you supercap ever becomes spare you have a very good use awaiting it.
