Hopefully just me ?

I have downloaded a disc and had to type in the metadata myself. Copied the cover JPEG  and saved it in the same folder as the tracks (as always)

(almost) certain I now have it correct, but when (in Win explorer) I [click] properties and ID and then [click] to add the cover JPEG - it appears as a thumbnail then I [click] OK  - presumably saving it.

Straightaway I right [Click] properties and ID and it is not there ???

I have not had this problem before, has anyone got any bright ideas please ?thanks,

Al

Its most unusual - as in never heard of - a download not having metadata.   What is actually missing?  I'm not sure how successful you will be editing metadata with Win Explorer,  you need a puka metadata prog like, dBpoweramp, MP3tag & AudioShell.

Where did you get the album from ???

Thank you Mike

I bought a CD on Bandcamp a while ago - liked it - noticed the band had another Cd out (German band) - could not find it - eMailed one of the band - ended up downloading it via "Dropbox"

13 tracks - data needed sorting out

Copied what I usually do (which works) i.e. Track 1/13 etc.

I have just read (having spent a few hours on this) that you cannot add tags to WAV files ?

I notice Album Artist is missing on all the tracks - so tried to add it - but same as photo JPEG  - added the heading and data - click OK - but, open again - not there

I therefore cannot get my Naim App to read the data and therefore it does not find the disc ?

As it was not a CD presumably I cannot load the files into dbPoweramp ?

Getting a bit stuck with it

Ah,  a bit of a bootleg,  oh well.   I add/edit metadata in WAV all the time,  I only have WAV (& DSD) & use both MP3tag & dBpoweramp to edit.

In Win Explorer, highlight  right click on a track & a popup window will give you dBpoweramp "Convert To" & "Edit ID-Tag".  Its the same with MP3tag (open source) & I find that easier to work with on a whole album as you can more easily highlight the whole album, right click & open MP3tag which then opens it all on one spread sheet

I only ever have FLAC files, and on the rare occasion I download WAV, such as from Erased Tapes, I convert them to FLAC, where adding metadata seems easier. Dbpoweramp will allow you to add or change metadata. It's simply a matter of highlighting all the tracks, right clicking and using DBpoweramp, where you can add album artist etc. I never bother with the album art folder.jpg, instead I just add the art to the individual tracks. If Dbpoweramp won't find it, just download it and then add it from your photos folder. Once you've don't it a couple of times it's really easy.

Please be sure to make a copy of the original album & work/practice on that,  then if you do bugger it up,  no tears.   Let us know how you get on.

Meta data can be added to WAV - iTunes can also handle it.

Dats wot I said in my first post ..........  "I add/edit metadata in WAV all the time"

With dbPoweamp you need a free plugin that you can find on their site to edit the metadata of some WAV files. If you look in the dbPoweamp forum you should find instructions.

the problem with wav is yes you can edit with itunes and it still wont be seen by another programe, or edit with some other tagging program and it wont be seen by itunes etc.

wav is a pain in the arse

Yes Apple and WAV files are not great bed fellows... other OS and non Apple apps seem to have no issues. However dbpoweramp on OSX makes it pretty usable albeit not as seamless as Windows .. You need to access the Wav metadata option via the Services option on the OSX file management Finder menu once you have installed dbpoweramp on your Mac.

Hi

Just logged in and read latest replies - thanks very much BUT

I use Win 10 and Android tablet - I do not use Apple

Somehow I have got it loaded and working but not quite sure how (which still bugs me a little)

I have just created a "DiscnameWAV" & a "DiscnameFLAC"

Selecting 1st track on each (same track) - RightClick\Properties\IDTag\+Add\edit\AlbumTitle - typed in the album title and clicked OK

Did this on both WAV & FLAC versions - then right clicked on them both again - Properties - the WAV version no longer showed the added text whereas the FLAC version did

I had previously got a bit lost - but somehow I now have a working WAV version on my server and all seems fine

I was advised when downloading music to use WAV although all my CDs are FLAC - all music is transposed to WAV before NDX - and all sounds good to me

Thank you so much to all of you for your valuable assistance as always, particularly MikeB as I now know how to add e.g. album title to all tracks at once - a big time saver

Regards,

Al

sounds strange - and you are running dBpoweramp on Windows - and your righclicking on a file in explorer - selecting enhanced (IDTag) dbpoweramp metadata option - making a change and selecting apply - and then when you later check the file the meta data is missing? If so that sounds like a bug - assuming you have write permission on the file and you did actually write to the WAV file  - and I suggest you should raise on the dBpoweramp forum.. Mr Spoon also frequents these parts from time to time as well..

Hi Simon

Thanks BUT

You are obviously very capable of losing me quite quickly :-

I do run dbPoweramp and copy all my Cds using it - copy them to a music folder on my D: drive then upload them to my NAS - no problems !

On this and one other occasion , downloading the music, I obviously did not have the CD, presumably cannot use dbPoweramp, so just tried to check all the data conformed before uploading, and on the current issue, data was missing, so I just used Win Explorer and right click\properties\IDtag edits to try to resolve issues, but as I said in my previous post it did not work with WAV files - but somehow I have fixed it ?!?!?!

Not easy to lay out clearly - hope this makes sense ?

Regards,

Al

Al, the only thing I'd suggest is that you download in flac, as it's just easier. As you are transcoding, it will sound the same as a wav file. By the way, the idtag thing you get when you right click is part of dbpoweramp. It has various bits, such as the cd ripper. When you edit the metadata on your cd rips you are using the same thing as when you edit the metadata on your downloads.
