After selling off my CD's and running my music as FLAC via a NAS I had lost part of my the relationship with my music. To remedy this I have started collecting vinyl versions of my music, some which I never actually had on CD but had as original records from my youth, Im 49. I now have a growing collecting that sit unplayed as...I have no record player.. I now have that connection again and ill be honest I quite like looking up the old Vinyl and collecting it despite not playing any. So..what is my illness lol!
Faux nostalgia mixed with a hoarding obsession?
I've had music on most formats but it has always been about 'more' music not more things. I'm happy with rips / downloads and being nowhere near physical stuff. Means to an end, etc, etc. I'm of a similar age and if you are anything like me the law of diminishing returns really kicks in with some music, so maybe the physical item is a way to 'reminisce' and re-feel that connection.
I think your right - 'reminisce' and re-feel that connection'
If you were playing the vinyl I'd say go for it. I moved back to vinyl after many years away recently and there are albums that sound better to me in that format (and some that sound better in digital format too of course), and I enjoy the ritual and collecting that goes with it. It helped that I still had a lot of vinyl stored away, but I possibly wouldn't start from scratch and buying vinyl I couldn't play woudl seem like a total waste of money to me when I could spend that money on more digital music or better playback. Still, if it works for you then it's all good, enjoy
I never intended to collect all my music as Vinyl, id have to sell a kidney to do so. Just a little trip down memory lane as most can be purchased relatively cheaply. I have the option to buy a turn table as well, who knows..
Nice that i haven't been cast out as a weirdo and that we are all accepted on this forum..
I should be in the possession of a N272 n NAP 200 tomorrow "HungryHalibut" ; )
Another 'free' tip to help re-engage a connection to music (and there's nowt wrong with an upgrade or two!) is to set yourself the goal of writing a review/profile/critique of a particular artist. It certainly re-engages the odd brain cell and infuses the listening process with an extra sense of purpose. I'm trying my hand at Popol Vuh and Peter Hammill, I balked at King Crimson though, too many line-ups!
Excellent idea HAFLER30
Easy. Loss of sexual attractiveness.

Men’s music ability and attractiveness to women in a real-life courtship context
Nicolas Guéguen, Sébastien Meineri (Université de Bretagne-Sud, France
Jacques Fischer-Lokou (Université de Paris-Sud, France)
This experiment tested the assumption that music plays a role in sexual selection. Three hundred young women were solicited in the street for their phone number by a young male confederate who held either a guitar case or a sports bag in his hands or had no bag at all. Results showed that holding a guitar case was associated with greater compliance to the request, thus suggesting that musical practice is associated with sexual selection.

All three authors have turntables.

Could have nothing to do with music. Maybe an association with the presumptive fingering skills of a guitarist?
This is getting deep now..
It's called KINDNESS
As in how kind of you to have collected and sent all those vinyls for me. I will happily accept them.
On a serious note: just get a turntable.
