which Naim interconnects and where?

I have a CD5X cd player with the FLATCAP 2X power supply (from 2008) and now I have the chance to get a good deal on a NAC 122X + NAP 150X pre-amp and poweramp (to substitute my QUAD 99 + 909 amplification) and I can't figure out what is the best way to connect all this in order to get the best sonic result possible.

I'm not at all familiarized with the NAIM connections so I need the expertise of all of you long term NAIM users

The cd player and the power supply have two interconnects: a SNAIC power interconnect (black) and NA03 audio signal interconnect (light grey). The preamp and poweramp come with a SNAIC signal and power interconnect (black)

My questions are:

1 - What cables do I need the connect all of this properly?

2 - What is the best with to connect all the gear to the FLATCAP? Do I need another FLATCAP to get the best out of the system?

3 - Can I get better cables than the stock ones?

Thanks in advance

Loo on the Naim website and download the conecting guide this should help. You can get better interconnects but I would say with the stock one's till you have it all sorted.

Thanks for your fast reply. I did look at it but I can't get to understand it clearly.

For example can I use the preamp and poweramp with the upgrade 1 and 2 connections to the FLATCAP and still connect the CD5X to the FLATCAP?

Am I missing an interconnect cable? If so witch kind of cable?

I'm a bit confused by the types of interconnects available: does all have the ability to carry signal and power?

1. It's in the manual

2. No

3. Yes, but you don't need them.

Someone will correct me if this is wrong, but I belive the connection should be:

Interconnect (5pin 180) CD5x Analogue Output to NAC122X CD In

SNAIC 5 (5Pin 240) Flatcap Power Out B to CD5X Upgrade (remove link plug)

SNAIC 5 (5Pin 240) NAC 122X Upgrade (remove link plug) to Flatcap Power Out A

SNAIC 4 (4Pin 270) Flatcap Signal Out A to NAP 150X Input

Huge, sounds good to me. Worth saying that the white bands show direction and should be closest to source of signal.

An amazing kit indeed! One of the best entry level pre/amp combo ever made by Naim. This is where I started as well. Enjoy it if you get to pass the Naim cabling intitiation step.  :hehe:

Agree about 122x/150x .. great sounding kit (with the right speakers)

Thanks to all NAIM users for sharing their knowledge, specialy member HUGE: that was the kind of reply that I was looking for. I now get all the difference between all the diferent cables needed. Great!

After taking another look in the Connection Guide, and hoping to squeeze the best performance from the kit here's a final challenge:

1 - should I use the FLATCAP 2X (A & B) to adress the NAC122X upgrade 1 & 2 connections and leave the CD5X without connection to the FLATCAP 2X (and later get a powersupply to the cd player alone)

or

2 - should I use the the FLATCAP 2X to adress both NAC122X and CD5X? This implies that I only explore the upgrade path number 1 on the Preamp.

Can I use another powersuply (like a HICAP) to do the upgrade path number 2?

Thanks in advance

I'm a bit confused, as the 122x only has one upgrade connection. The 152x, on the other hand, has two. Which preamp do you have?

Ah you are absolutley right!

My doubts were based on the Connection Guide schematics and I wrongly assumed that the 122X and the 152X had the same connection possibilities.

Thanks for clearing this out for me

Kind regards

Given what I've read above, it sounds like you need to buy another SNAIC (5 to 5) so you can connect the 2nd flatcap supply to the preamp. The (4 to 4) SNAIC then goes from the Flatcap to the power amp. The pre and power have no direct connection in this situation.

Frank.
