Silence. At last

after stupidly selling my NS01 I bought another because I missed the convenience, my previous one was nearly silent unless you was ripping a cd, the new second hand was was driving me mad, horrible whining continuous noise..I Was nearly at the point of putting it up for sale, although I was having reservations as the new owner would have the same noise issues I was having, anyway I decided to investigate so Disconnected it from the mains, removed all connecting cables then removed all the screws from the base and slipped the sleeve of, plugged it back in and it was nearly silent, phew!, what a relief. The noise was obviously being caused by the driver, chassis and sleeve amplifying the hd whine.. I then removed the hard drive alliminium holder mounting screws, and placed some double sided tape on the chassis, I didn't remove the top tape so when I replaced the hd chassis it wasn't stuck, it's just cushioned from the chassis, ( the space the hds sit is quite tight so there's no movement ), I put it all back together reconnected it and turned it on......silence.  Enjoyment returned.....

nice near on free fix.

Well done!

My first Unitiserve made a constant noise which sounded like a whirring hard drive. There's no way I could have put up with it in the listening room. However, the noise came to a spectacular crescendo when a lightning strike to my phone line cooked the innards of the US via the Ethernet cable.

The replacement, courtesy of my house insurance, is totally silent.

Chris - you do realise this qualifies you for a special Associate Professorship in the Dead UnitiServe Society.

We have all managed to have at least one die on our hands (I'm on my 4th one now). But they all died of natural causes.
Yours suffered a horrible and agonising death caused by a lightning strike.

So, presumably, is the original.

Indeed, it makes a handy doorstop.
