What happened to HH's last thread?

Don't tell me it got pulled?!?

Just because some members were venting their frustration and disappointment at a certain "subject"?

Oh, well....

I guess it's being moderated

This Forum has been fantastically helpful to me over the years, whether to help me with streaming, buying a new vacuum cleaner or gas hob, or giving support when times are hard - after my recent accident I received lots of super emails from people I've not even met, which meant to much, and I hope I have given a little helpful advice to others. I've met some lovely people and discovered some wonderful new music. So I have a strange affection for it, and hate to see it in its current state.

Clearly the moderators are happy for the Forum to be full of dross and for activity levels to be at what seems to be an all time low. No wonder so many contributors with useful things to say seem to have deserted a ship that is lower in the waterline than it once was. I find it rather sad.

Last year our garden was full of slimy snails but this year we have lots of beautiful, entertaining frogs. I fully understand what you are saying HH, but today is not necessarily tomorrow. I too found the forum irritating (to say the least) when a certain member was posting, not the same one btw.

I think the thread was removed - none of the links from email notifications worked.

Guys,

It's a pretty responsible forum in the main. And Naim is fairly tolerrant of the subject range and content. It's not for one or two individuals to dictate the content quality of threads and posts, at least not IMHO. This applies regardless of membership duration, ranking or frequency of recent postings. Never-the-less, expressing one's opinion about poor content is perfectly acceptable, again IMHO.

For sure I find some of the posts un-interesting and  IMHO a few are downright diabolical. I just ignore them. No doubt others find some of these posts most enjoyable. Same applies to one or two individuals, But that's life !

I've had a few of my posts and even one or two threads (heavily) moderated at the request of unknown whingers. I have usually managed to guess who they are and simply mark them down as life's loosers, too feeble to stand up for themselves.

Cheers, Don

If we all ignored the annoying troll like dross posters, they will go away, eventually.

Lots of support for HH on the state of the forum,  & real life the way it is in forum-land from Don.

You can't always sit on the fence and watch the world go by as if nothing is happening. A bad itch sometimes turns into a tumor: it just won't go away!

Naim's forum. Richard's call. Past these two hard facts there will always be trolls, idiot posters, self serving bandwidth hoggers, self appointed mods and members who believe the forum operates some kind of rank and privilege system. And occasionally threads will be pruned or pulled. It's an internet forum. What do you expect?

I think that in the case of this forum, tolerance levels are generally high. Plenty of other places, some quite nearby, to go for a good old punch up or a bit of ad hom shit slinging. It's practically encouraged.

Well I for one feel it's totally unacceptable to single out forum members in a potentially derogatory/intolerant way just because they have a different perespective on things and want to raise subjects that may appear strange to others. As long as they comply with the AUP.. I feel every member's voice is as equally valid as anybody else's .. if there is no support on the forum for a particular subject it will be ignored and the thread will die out...

Posted on: 24 September 2016 by Timmo1341

Whilst on this occasion HH may have over stepped the mark by naming the individual concerned, I do sympathise with the sentiment expressed. The member in question is either a little mischievous with a weird sense of humour, or a complete t****r! Either way, provided he breaks no rules, censorship is not the solution.

Ignore him and he'll eventually desist or go away.

Plus one.

I find it quite bizarre that people are getting so worked up about the content of a forum, the use of +1 and poor grammer use.

I didn’t see the offending thread, but, I find the more recent slightly bizarre threads quite amusing and I must admit, even more so now a few members are getting themselves in a tizzy over them.

The post in question was removed because I felt it overstepped a line. If someone posts a thread that you think is a bit weird or silly, just ignore it.

A forum is what you make it. The rules here are clear. I like think of this place and reasonably tolerant and respectful of fellow members. If you're getting bored of reading the same questions and posting the same answers until all you can do is post your frustration then  its time to ask yourself some questions of your own. Generally, the old timers on here are a great resource and really contribute something positive and useful to newer members. You may not always get thanks, but you make the forum a good place to hang out for others. So... Thanks from me. And lets try to be a big for inclusive, forgiving and tolerant. Thank you.

(and apologies for iPhone post. - ill need to see if any of this post makes sense when I'm back on a computer)

+1 or plus 1....for Inclusive, forgiving and tolerant.

Richard you have just described the qualities required to deal with  my  'mother in law' for the last 34 years

In comparison the Forum is a breeze....

Some share this space 24/7 so best to promote a well rounded disposition, unless the men in white coats come to get us all.

Clearly? The only thing clear to me is that your opinion of the forum is subjective while you tend write about it with a self-anointed, pseudo-altruistic air which strikes me as pretentious whining for what you personally see fit. Directly disparaging a forum member in a post title, as you did, would be considered contemptible behavior on any reputable forum, but warranted for you on the Naim forum?

No one here has a greater stake or more valuable voice in forum content than any other member. Letting a post die via lack of response is far easier than attempts to quash it through additional negative posting. The fact that other folks are responding to posts you deem "dross" ought to shed some perspective on your own opinions.

Yeah, the forum has changed and will continue to evolve. Most of the gang mentality and occasional bullying of the past is gone. Those "contributors with useful things to say" have likely found more valuable ways to spend their time and moved on. Kudos to them.

Joe, I agree that my post was inappropriate and that I should not have posted it. I am sorry if I have insulted anyone or caused any upset. Shall we let it rest there, rather than start an attack on me? It is, as you so rightly say, not for me to judge the merit of anything at all.

In defence of the flatfish, he has just endured a rather nasty accident.

Posted on: 24 September 2016 by joerand

Nigel,

We've exchanged emails in the past and in that regard I think you can appreciate that I'm a Yank expressing a forthright, direct opinion with no intent to start a personal attack. I say what I genuinely think - otherwise my responses here have little value. I hope your apology is well received by the offended forum member. Cheers,

Randy

Strange how you interpret HH's original 'sin' as justification to launch into a deeply offensive, highly personal public attack upon him. The 'call a spade a spade', 'I'm just a plain speakin' Yank' defence doesn't really cut it by the way.

Yes, Nigel was wrong to get so personal, no matter that he gave voice to what was, I suspect, the unvoiced opinion of many. He has apologised, so let's all please cut him slack and get down off the old moral high horse. The guy's just had a very serious accident involving the type of injury well documented for resulting in temporary, or permanent, changes to character.

Cheers

Tim
