Help - Superuniti is dead
Posted by: Borders Nick on 29 September 2016
My SU is completely dead.
No display or Naim logo light.
I have changed the fuse and confirmed that the wall socket is Ok by plugging another appliance in (also confirmed the fuse is OK in another appliance) - without success.
We had some short power cuts overnight and a 30 min cut late this afternoon, after which I noticed the problem.
Anyone had a similar problem ?
Assuming that it may have to go back to dealer - which is pain as they are 50 miles away.
Have you changed the fuse inside the SU itself, not just in the plug?
No - didn't realise there was one.
I briefly checked the user manual but could see anything obvious.
How do I access it ?
Next to the mains inlet is a little black cover. Prise it out with a screwdriver and you will find a spare fuse inside. Make sure you put the new one in the same way round as the old one. It will then come back to life. Hopefully! Get a new spare from your dealer in case it happens again.
Yes got it - thanks - it's back to life. I'll order another spare.
Thanks very much H.
Cheers Nick
Hurrah! That saved 100 miles of driving.
Indeed - I expect your consultancy invoice will arrive in due course ?
Nick, do make sure you get exactly the same make and type of fuse from your Naim dealer.
Or choose a better fuse of the same type. Aren't there hifi fuses that enhance the sound the same way as e.g. better LAN cables do?
No. Very bad and dangerous advice. IB I am going to remove your comment. Do not replace the equipment fuse with anything other thAn the exact same make type and rating. Do not try so-called audiophile fuses. Naim have tried them already and supply the best fuse for the equipment.

i thought it was abundantly clear that it was a jest not advice, and given with what I thought was sufficient cautionary indication just in case anyone was remotely tempted - my apologies if that was overstepping the mark.
I called my dealer today - they don't stock them but they called back with the precise spec for the fuses, which are prettying standard items apparently & can be bought from many outlets. So a pack is winging its way from the River.

Richard, I feel you have been unfair in this instance. IB's post was clearly a joke.
Thanks Peter!
But I suppose there was always the risk someone would think it a good idea....
It's never a joke Peter. And as IB rightly points out, the forum crosses many different countries and cultures, many for whom English is a second or third language so its easy for somethimg intended to be a joke to be taken seriously.
No harm done.....we are all here to help each other!
