Hi,

No but if you're getting 252 in the near future then go for it but 2 points:

  • You'll need a HCDR or SC as the 250 AND 300 cannot power the 202 like the 200.
  • The 300 will seriously show up the (relative) deficiencies in the 202 - good that it is!

Lindsay

Go for it!

Do take note of what Lindsay wrote, though.  It will sound great, and any weaknesses will be due to what is upstream; namely, your sources and 202.  With a 252 coming "shortly," jump on the offer if it is that good.  Note that 300s (including DR versions) show up on the used market relatively often.

Forgot to say my nac 202 is powered by a supercap 2

Than you're in business!!

The Strat provides a perfect summary for you, noting that the power amp will reveal the character of the 202/SC in full.

While my 52 was off for service, I used a 102 with SC into 6x135 and active DBLs. The 102 was surprisingly capable when juiced with the SC....far, far better than with a Hicap, which I also tried. I seem to recall it was warmer, looser and stripped of some of the dynamics and panache compared to the 52, With a mere Hicap powering it, it was rather dull and insipid and inappropriate to be used with the revealing electronics downstream.

If a 252 is just around the corner go for it.

Would 300 dr sound better with my 202 for now

As others have mentioned, if 252/SCDR is really planned to come in the near future, go for this 300DR. It is the ideal companion of the 252. Yes it will sound much better than the 200, already a great amp with its own merits, even with 202.  <:)

Well some people like Richard Loyd are very happy with a Dac-V1/300, hence a 202/HC or SC/300 would make at least as much sense

I assume you'll have soon a SC in your system if you planned to go from 202 to 252

BTW you'll be quite surprised when you'll power your 202 with a SC

all ready using a supercap 2 with my 202 and it did make a big difference to the 202

For about 9 months I had a 102/300 combination and it played beautifully. The 102 (or 202) can sound a little edgy at times but in my system the 300 was counterbalancing that very well.

The preamp got upgraded to 252 and 552 afterwards but I had a great time with the 102/300 pairing when I had it.

Did the 202 replace the 102

I think My answer was not very clear, sorry. l never had a 202, my point was that both 102 and 202 can sound a little edgy at times. I upgraded the 102/Hicap/NAPSC to a 252 and now to a 552.
