Quadraspire and Gyrodec

Posted by: john s on 01 October 2016

All my Naim units are contained in a hifi cabinet with my Gyrodec on top of the unit. I'd like to separate the Gyrodec by using a wall shelf, which would have the added advantage of allowing a bit more space around the NDX and 282. Fraim units would allow this but are not practical in my circumstances, and having researched the wall shelf units available the Quadraspire SVT seems to have the right balance of looks sound quality and looks that will fit in with the room.

However, I cannot find one to actually see and I'm a bit concerned that the "slotted" nature of the SVT shelf would not work with the three feet on the Gyrodec. The EV4 shelf is solid but too small (if you include the space needed for the Gyrodec cover to be opened (let's not start a thread on whether or not the cover should be removed).

Has anyone used the SVT wall shelf with a Gyrodec? Any comments on how well they work together would be appreciated.

Thanks

We use SVT, and the slots are 9mm wide. Whether it's suitable will depend on how big the deck's feet are, or whether they are positioned so as to avoid the gaps.

I've used the SVT with several TTs including the Gyro. It's a faff I admit, with any deck, and in the case of the Gyro if you don't want to mark the surface you may want to use Michell Tenderfeet or Naim Chips under the deck. This makes siting the deck less of a faff at the same time as protecting the SVT surface. My Hutter rack has loads of marks from the Orbe, which uses the same feet and is only a little heavier - looks a bit like a pockmarked surface now.

Contact Quadrasphire direct they will be able to advise on any variation to the wall shelf to suit.

The Tiger Paw Vulkan seems to be getting a lot of praise on other forums. Did you consider that option? It seems quite favourably priced too currently.

Not a Gyro, but the shelf looks good and sounds good with the the old fruit box

Thanks for the responses - I'll have a look at the Tiger Paw but I think the SVT is favourite at present, and using the Fraim chips would solve any location issues with the feet on the gyrodec.

Alfa4life - could you tell me the specifications of the shelf in your picture? I know it is Quadraspire SVT but the colour....is that "Bamboo"? with "silver" feet? Looks lovely by the way, sold my wife on it very quickly! Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Yes it's Bamboo, the support (arms and wall plate) only comes in Bamboo but you can have the shelf any colour in the range.

The feet are silver sitting in bronze cups, must pester dealer some time to try bronze feet.

Like you the wife was sold on it very quickly, if I remember the phrase used when I looked at any of the TP style was "your not putting a lump of old oil rig on the wall if you value your bits"... the choice was made and never regretted.

Very worthwhile.

Thanks for the info - I was thinking of the Bronze upgrade as well, but like you probably as a stage 2 when it's all up and running and I get used to the initial impact.  Although as my gyrodec is in black and gold there is a chance I will be told to do that immediately as it will match better.....and I wouldn't want to miss an opportunity like that.
