Very loose mains connection on Superuniti

Posted by: taxbuster on 02 October 2016

I have a SU with a Naim Power-line and the connection is VERY loose. Now the manual says "The metal body of the IEC connector is able to move a little when the Power-line has been inserted into  a mains input socket. This is intentional."

However, it is loose enough that a slight touch dislodges it such that the electrical connection is also broken. I cannot believe this is intentional.

The socket itself is somewhat loose (I believe this is the intentional part) in its housing in the SU, but when the Power-line is connected, the whole thing can wiggle 1 cm or more. This is quite distressing as I'm worried that it can short out. I noticed this recently as I had to move the Fraim/SU to a new location and one of my cats delighted in walking behind it - and cut off my power.

Any thoughts? (other than getting rid of the cats....likely a losing proposition with my DW)

Is the powerline pushed in far enough? Every powerline I've connected has made a very firm connection. It may just need to be pushed home a little harder

It's not in far enough. Hold the fat silver bit (not the black bit), locate it on the pins, and give it a damn good shove. The jaws on the plug will grab the pins in the socket and all will be well.

OK - many thanks - you guys are FAST! I was a little nervous as I felt I'd already pushed quite hard but....not so! There was just a little snick more and it seems quite stable - but it really does require a surprising amount of "push"!!

Excellent. Your cat should now be able to swing on the Powerline quite happily.

Purrfect!

The internal jaws of the Powerline are made as tight as regulations allow.  This makes for a very good and secure electrical contact and contributes significantly to the Powerlines excellent performance.
