Dear Forum members,

Today we announce our most revolutionary streaming platform yet. Inspired by our unfaltering passion for music and enabled by more than 40 years' of tireless innovation, we introduce the new Uniti range. Comprising the Uniti Nova, Uniti Star and Uniti Atom all-in-one players and the Uniti Core hard disk server, Uniti's brand new state-of-the-art technology enables you to experience music like never before. Rip and store entire collections, play or stream music from any source, at the touch of a button, all with the deep, immersive sound only a Naim system delivers.

Our Research and Development team in Salisbury had to fundamentally deconstruct every historic design and technology decision we had ever made to challenge themselves and go further, especially in terms of sound quality. It’s a true ground-up development, all hand-built in Salisbury, with our core principles at its heart. We looked at every single aspect of the product proposition, the electronic architecture, the mechanical enclosure, the user experience and the approach to manufacture and assembly.

The result? A clear step change in every single aspect of the products, a true achievement of excellence. We hope you enjoy this exciting new product range and look forward to hearing what you think.

Best wishes

Naim

[Edited: 13.01.2017]

The new Uniti range is our biggest release in over fifteen years and we are really proud of all the work that has gone into crafting this revolutionary new product range. Due to the technical complexity of Uniti we have faced more challenges than we initially anticipated and we still have some features to refine to ensure the products that reach you are of the highest possible quality.

We are currently processing certifications for AirPlay, GoogleCast, TIDAL, Bluetooth (aptX HD), WiFi, HDMI and Spotify Connect  and beta testing our latest software; the team is working extremely hard to ensure that the products stand up to the level of quality you have come to expect from Naim.

As such we have made the difficult decision to delay shipping Uniti Atom until May with Uniti Star and Uniti Nova following in June.

We have been reviewing all customer feedback from the Uniti Core servers shipped in 2016, and made the decision to stop shipping after Christmas, to ensure we have fixed any software issues before shipping en masse. We are expecting a firmware update next week, and an over-the-air update will be available via the app for those who have already received their Uniti Core servers.  Shipping will re-commence next week as soon as the firmware is available and tested.

We know the delay is frustrating and sincerely apologise for it. Thank you for your continued support and patience while we put the finishing touches on your Uniti.

I really like the look of them but would like to know what it means for the support of my NDX in terms of future feature upgrades. I hope it dosent get left behind too soon like the HDX is.

This is a question that many of us have, I'm sure. I've had my 272 for only a year and would like to think it will get some of the new features. There is a question on the Facebook page asking whether the mu-so will get google cast, and Naim's response is 'please keep an eye out for future updates', whatever that means. Hopefully we will get to know more over the coming days, in particular how the NDS, NDX, 272, 172, ND5xs and the current Uniti range are affected.

If it didn't have the feature when you bought it then you shouldn't complain when they don't offer an update for what you've bought.

Thats one viewpoint trotted out before on these pages.

Has anyone realised that the new design limits the unit to be placed only on the top of the rack/shelf due to the location of its volume control ?

I agree & disagree, I disagree in that Naim has been really outstanding by introducing firm/software to enhance what we bought with the likes of Spotify & Tidal.  Its really giving value to the customers product purchase choice & underscoring the long term value of owning Naim.   If that same philosophy can be extended to whatever can be transferred to existing products - IF (big IF) & wherever possible.  Not sure I will be in a rush to get the Google thing,  but SQ enhancements will be most welcome.

I don't think they are designed with racks in mind. These are primarily 'all in one' units for people who want great sound and convenience without HiFi nuttery.

Yes - I would imagine many of these all-in-one players will set up on a something like a sideboard, display or shelving unit,  not a rack.   I will be MOST disappointed if/when the separates come along to see a top volume control on those

I take your point Mike but Naim have been IMHO less than outstanding when making software updates available to Unitiserve , HDX or NaimNet customers.

As I understand it their hard/firm/software capabilities are at the limit & are not able to go further.

It's a decent point - even closely related products such as the NDS and 272 require other hardware to function and therefore tend to sit on racks. Front facing controls will be essential, requiring a shift in the industrial design

Indeed - I was contemplating where I would put the 552 replacement preamp if it had a top volume control - or would I just use the remote control predominantly anyway

It will be interesting to see / find out if the updated streamer hardware is in any way compatible with older devices.  Perhaps it will work with the smaller mono-screen (albeit with limitations) and so could be an upgrade for the ND / NAC-N lines.

Just complete speculation on my part...

If that is the case then understandable. But, I've never seen that stated on these pages and my enquiries to Naim resulted in a "no comment" response.

It will be interesting to see how long the "new platform " takes to trickle up. It makes standalone streamers and pre-streamers seem a risky buy at the moment as this is a complete rewrite.  While if you own one of these pieces they are as good as they ever were, buying something that may be substantially upgraded in 6-18 months would give pause for thought.

The UnitiServe and HDX servers themselves are all based on the original NS01 which was released and available in the market before I joined Naim so they've been out for about 10 years which is a long time for a tech product to remain "current" nowadays ... the original units didn't support Internet Radio or ripping to FLAC or expanding capacity using network storage or parallel MP3 copies or storage of downloaded music on the units themselves or UPnP serving and have gone from 400GB to 500GB to 1Tb and to 2Tb of storage so they definitely have been updated to keep them relevant and current over the years .

I know it might seem frustrating if you ask a question about future developments and receive what you see as a "No Comment" answer but we really are not allowed to discuss anything that we could be working on or planning until - like today - an official announcement is made and then we are able to discuss it.

It's precisely the same as with any product development cycle, especially in the software arena. Until it's released it's vapourware! If the company says it has intentions to develop something and, for any reason, gives up on that path, then this opens the company to litigation from disgruntled customers waiting for the missing goodies. Better to stay schtum...

I do hope that as these styling gets implemented to the classic series (I am guessing starting next year), the volume control will not be on the top ! lol...

Well i thought it would be the separates, but starting with the Uniti line makes perfect sense and eventually they will get all the way through.

I think they look amazing...congrads to Naim for a great announcement and i look forward to seeing them at the dealer.

when they get to the separates i hope they do go with this styling with the volume on top.  No problem...with these units you would use your ipad or ipod anyway most of time, and you can always replace a Fraim shelf with the taller one they have for the 550.

Yup, even if they called it the Statement, I don't think they'd sell ;-)

I am glad everyone is so please with the new aesthetic.

However harsh my words were in an earlier post I stick by them. The new design is too flash and attention grabbing that since I cannot currently find a place to tuck a rack out of sight, I may be more inclined than ever to pick up a 252 before "the change". Or even better, a dirt cheap second hand one and get it serviced. They've gone for teh full on f;ashy Japanese style look. The range looks like the chunky love child of a Sony PS4 and a Panasonic DVR.

I'm glad you made that clear, I actually thought you liked the new look from your first post.

Should I add that the chunky love child is not fat, it's just big boned?
