Dear Forum members,

Today we announce our most revolutionary streaming platform yet. Inspired by our unfaltering passion for music and enabled by more than 40 years' of tireless innovation, we introduce the new Uniti range. Comprising the Uniti Nova, Uniti Star and Uniti Atom all-in-one players and the Uniti Core hard disk server, Uniti's brand new state-of-the-art technology enables you to experience music like never before. Rip and store entire collections, play or stream music from any source, at the touch of a button, all with the deep, immersive sound only a Naim system delivers.

Our Research and Development team in Salisbury had to fundamentally deconstruct every historic design and technology decision we had ever made to challenge themselves and go further, especially in terms of sound quality. It’s a true ground-up development, all hand-built in Salisbury, with our core principles at its heart. We looked at every single aspect of the product proposition, the electronic architecture, the mechanical enclosure, the user experience and the approach to manufacture and assembly.

The result? A clear step change in every single aspect of the products, a true achievement of excellence. We hope you enjoy this exciting new product range and look forward to hearing what you think.

Best wishes

Naim

The new Uniti range is our biggest release in over fifteen years and we are really proud of all the work that has gone into crafting this revolutionary new product range. Due to the technical complexity of Uniti we have faced more challenges than we initially anticipated and we still have some features to refine to ensure the products that reach you are of the highest possible quality.

We are currently processing certifications for AirPlay, GoogleCast, TIDAL, Bluetooth (aptX HD), WiFi, HDMI and Spotify Connect  and beta testing our latest software; the team is working extremely hard to ensure that the products stand up to the level of quality you have come to expect from Naim.

As such we have made the difficult decision to delay shipping Uniti Atom until May with Uniti Star and Uniti Nova following in June.

We have been reviewing all customer feedback from the Uniti Core servers shipped in 2016, and made the decision to stop shipping after Christmas, to ensure we have fixed any software issues before shipping en masse. We are expecting a firmware update next week, and an over-the-air update will be available via the app for those who have already received their Uniti Core servers.  Shipping will re-commence next week as soon as the firmware is available and tested.

We know the delay is frustrating and sincerely apologise for it. Thank you for your continued support and patience while we put the finishing touches on your Uniti.

Can't say that I'm currently a fan of the new look but that could change in time.  One comment someone made is that the new look is very contemporary.  While I am a fan of contemporary design, I've found I tire of the design much quicker.  What was "cool" a couple years back now just looks old/dated.

As was posted above, any additional info on the power line lite?

My dyslexia may be playing tricks on me... but I do believe Naim have also switched the left / right speaker leads... left on right, right on left. I second guessing myself though as no one else has mentioned it :-)

I love the look of the range and am looking forward to hearing them. Could definitely see one in my future for our living room. I also think we are getting a glimpse of where the classic series separates are heading.

That's how they are on the Unitiqute as well, not sure about others in the current range.

Yup that comment was also one of my posts. I mentioned contemporary as a bad thing for the same reasons you just said. We need timeless classics.

I wanted to buy a UQ2 , good that I still haven't pulled the trigger. A lot of good deals should be coming to the market soon. But I think I can't help it, the temptation to buy the new atom is there as well

Have to wonder (here in the U.S especially) whether these are meant to be sold primarily thru dealers who still install and teach about each product or if it is meant more as a plug n play proposition and sold thru apple (more outlets) but less explanation and after-care

Naim should consider making a Uniti Atom with a high quality headphone amp without any speaker outputs and sell it at a lower price. I would love to get the Atom for my office but the speaker out function will be a waste as I will only use the headphone output.

Indeed. The quality of the headphone amp on the current UQ2 drives me nuts. Anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack (which generally implies an amp built for lower impedence headphones) really needs to at least have a line out for use with an external amp or a better amp with a 6.35mm jack. The Atom would make a great one stop hi-quality headphone system if these concerns had been addressed.

As an aside, how do you get the dust out of the Unit's crack (excuse the lwd image)?

We'll probably have to keep a can of compressed air handy.

If I understand correctly, these new units run on an operating system adapted (from Linux?) by Naim.  There has been much talk on the Streaming Audio forum, as well as elsewhere, about the sound quality benefits of the small, purpose-built computer "Microrendu."  Perhaps a streamlined, purpose-built-for-audio OS in these new Unity offerings is one of several features intended to take audio quality up a few notches?  I guess we will soon hear from those who can audition these new boxes...

So what functionality does the Atom - or US - bring to a streamer such as an NDX if you already have a NAS? Does it improve on SQ?

My dealer swears it is an essential device to improve SQ, and I also felt it did during my demo sessions; but still would like to hear other people's experience...

Posted on: 06 October 2016 by Laxton Yeo

An option for NDX, NDS owners could be to use the existing streamers as a DAC with the SPDIF out from the Core feeding the streamer. That's assuming Naim has done good work on the SPDIF output on the Core compared to the Unitiserve.

Perhaps someone from Naim could comment on whether playing back from NDS / NDX or from Uniti Core ==> SPDIF out ===> NDS/NDX is better.

The results will be interesting for existing ND series owners to know.

I dreamed about it. Naim has read my thoughts and made the Core for me, just for me!:coeur:

UC, a US2 SSD à la Melco? I can't wait comparing UC to N1Z.:ghee:

I have a feeling the new classic range of nac's will all have screens and streamers built in with a big dial on top.

So my brand new ND5XS is already outdated? Bloody typical.

Not at all none of the Uniti products replace your ND5XS.

Does it sound broken?

Nice industrial designs. The glass front panel reminds me of Meridian 200 series which I adore.

Website looks good too, but unfortunately too many fancy pictures and blurb, too little substance. I find it quite difficult to make detail comparisons between products, for example between Nova and Star which look very similar. Not even proper pictures of back panels. Weird.

To me, the Uniti Core will appeal more to hi-fi enthusiasts than the Uniti's target customers. Will it make more sense if it is marketed and re-styled as a Classic line product?

Just my 2 cents.

I hope not. A provision of having the gear in room is that the top shelf of the rack is actually bare except for whatever my wife chooses to put on it. Top shelf anything is off the cards.

I really like the look of them but would like to know what it means for the support of my NDX in terms of future feature upgrades. I hope it dosent get left behind too soon like the HDX is.

This is a question that many of us have, I'm sure. I've had my 272 for only a year and would like to think it will get some of the new features. There is a question on the Facebook page asking whether the mu-so will get google cast, and Naim's response is 'please keep an eye out for future updates', whatever that means. Hopefully we will get to know more over the coming days, in particular how the NDS, NDX, 272, 172, ND5xs and the current Uniti range are affected.

I have just put an order in for a 272/250dr, should I be concerned...and should I wait do you think?

these new unit are focused were the market is  muso leaning to all in one ,no box count with power supplies.  PLUG and play.  dealers will love it ,the order books will be busy from today.  Excellent range of products. Watch  for units for sale forums ,it as started already

God, I hope not... but I don't think so... the higher end in Naim benefits from separation, physical decoupling and space due to good old fashioned physics. Just look at the NDS and 252/552 innards... but  that is not to knock at all the attractiveness and appeal of these new all in one devices.. I am sure they will sound enjoyable.... it's a shame however they only have one DIN source input ... come on Naim could we at least not had two or even possibly three?.. I couldn't see a seperate  line out for recorder/headphone amps either... but I might have missed that  .. it could be nesting in the DIN input...

There's Google Cast for Audio integration in there which should cover that for you as well as bringing in support for a huge number of other streaming services that either weren't practical or financially viable to add native support for...
