Dear Forum members,

Today we announce our most revolutionary streaming platform yet. Inspired by our unfaltering passion for music and enabled by more than 40 years' of tireless innovation, we introduce the new Uniti range. Comprising the Uniti Nova, Uniti Star and Uniti Atom all-in-one players and the Uniti Core hard disk server, Uniti's brand new state-of-the-art technology enables you to experience music like never before. Rip and store entire collections, play or stream music from any source, at the touch of a button, all with the deep, immersive sound only a Naim system delivers.

Our Research and Development team in Salisbury had to fundamentally deconstruct every historic design and technology decision we had ever made to challenge themselves and go further, especially in terms of sound quality. It’s a true ground-up development, all hand-built in Salisbury, with our core principles at its heart. We looked at every single aspect of the product proposition, the electronic architecture, the mechanical enclosure, the user experience and the approach to manufacture and assembly.

The result? A clear step change in every single aspect of the products, a true achievement of excellence. We hope you enjoy this exciting new product range and look forward to hearing what you think.

Discover Uniti: https://www.naimaudio.com/uniti

Best wishes

Naim

[Edited: 13.01.2017]

The new Uniti range is our biggest release in over fifteen years and we are really proud of all the work that has gone into crafting this revolutionary new product range. Due to the technical complexity of Uniti we have faced more challenges than we initially anticipated and we still have some features to refine to ensure the products that reach you are of the highest possible quality.

We are currently processing certifications for AirPlay, GoogleCast, TIDAL, Bluetooth (aptX HD), WiFi, HDMI and Spotify Connect  and beta testing our latest software; the team is working extremely hard to ensure that the products stand up to the level of quality you have come to expect from Naim.

As such we have made the difficult decision to delay shipping Uniti Atom until May with Uniti Star and Uniti Nova following in June.

We have been reviewing all customer feedback from the Uniti Core servers shipped in 2016, and made the decision to stop shipping after Christmas, to ensure we have fixed any software issues before shipping en masse. We are expecting a firmware update next week, and an over-the-air update will be available via the app for those who have already received their Uniti Core servers.  Shipping will re-commence next week as soon as the firmware is available and tested.

We know the delay is frustrating and sincerely apologise for it. Thank you for your continued support and patience while we put the finishing touches on your Uniti.

Any pics of the new powerline lite? I love all the new unity stuff especially the core but I'm one of the oldies with a multi box naim system and no money left for any more full fat powerlines!

Can't say that I'm currently a fan of the new look but that could change in time.  One comment someone made is that the new look is very contemporary.  While I am a fan of contemporary design, I've found I tire of the design much quicker.  What was "cool" a couple years back now just looks old/dated.

As was posted above, any additional info on the power line lite?

Yup that comment was also one of my posts. I mentioned contemporary as a bad thing for the same reasons you just said. We need timeless classics.

Agree. On the other hand, only time can tell whether a new design is a timeless one. As I mentioned, I prefer the classic line design to the new one. In particular, I do not vey much like the base with the Naim logo and I am always a bit skeptical when different materials and different surface properties (like matt and glossy) are used for a simple enclosure. Also, Naim claims the new design to be "industrial" but this is not my understanding of industrial design. On the other hand, from the pictures on the Naim website it is a bit difficult to judge the new devices. Let's wait until Naim has a proper web presentation of the new line, hopefully with technical views and detailed specifications.

Naim should consider making a Uniti Atom with a high quality headphone amp without any speaker outputs and sell it at a lower price. I would love to get the Atom for my office but the speaker out function will be a waste as I will only use the headphone output.

Indeed. The quality of the headphone amp on the current UQ2 drives me nuts. Anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack (which generally implies an amp built for lower impedence headphones) really needs to at least have a line out for use with an external amp or a better amp with a 6.35mm jack. The Atom would make a great one stop hi-quality headphone system if these concerns had been addressed.

As an aside, how do you get the dust out of the Unit's crack (excuse the lwd image)?

We'll probably have to keep a can of compressed air handy.

Or toilet paper?

According articles I've read, this new range have updated  dedicated headphone amps.

Hi Jude,

That's right. But i'm sure if they removed the speaker amplification circuitry in the Atom and make it a headphones only amp, it will sound even better.

So what functionality does the Atom - or US - bring to a streamer such as an NDX if you already have a NAS? Does it improve on SQ?

My dealer swears it is an essential device to improve SQ, and I also felt it did during my demo sessions; but still would like to hear other people's experience...

When I did the comparison, the Nas solution was better, which was a surprise given what the dealer had told me about the Serve being superior.

...but would also make it into a completely different product with a very different (and incredibly niche) target market.

I wonder if any of these Uniti products will accept StageLine or SuperLine i a way that it can be connected and powered by SNAIC5 cable?

Hi Phil,

Does the Core run as hot as the Unitiserve? We open the windows wide on a warm day when the music is playing. You would think yes, with a built in PS.

Also, there's an obvious focus on reliability in the Core details. It "simply will not buckle under stress". Clearly this is aimed at the streaming novice who is nervous about ditching his/her CD player, but can we also assume that the quirky aspects of the Unitiserve have been recognised and addressed (e.g. e tendancy to take itself offline every few weeks where other devices remain rock solid)? This an area I would hope to see improve if I swap to the Core, although I know local networking idiosyncrasies will always be a factor.

Not sure if it's been asked already, but will Google Cast be coming as an update for me to use via my NDX or is this a function for the new streamers only ?

Good question.

Hi Keith - i would think with a ground up redesign, Naim will have moved the goal posts on with reliability and built on the experience gained with the streamer / server products. The new range seem to have lost the quirkiness of the old and seem a lot more user friendly (just look at the update procedure). Perhaps it's time that Naim published a network setup guide to allow customers to get this part right. A simple robust wired network is not hard to setup (get this bit right before worrying about fancy cables, ditching wall warts etc) and a guide with a few examples of how various setups can look would be very useful and help customers get the best from their investment.

Personally i think the new range look fantastic and i wish Naim every success with it.

The design is more 'urban' than 'industrial'. The CB / Olive / Classic design is much, much more 'industrial'.

Personally, I don't like the design based on the photos, but I will go to a shop and lift one device. The weight might change my perception, like closing a cardoor gives a feeling about the quality of a car.

Presumably you then turn the volume down to avoid disturbing people outside, when it goes cooler and you close the windows and turn the volume up...!

The solution is move house to a cooler part of the country with a north-facing music room.

Yes please! More information, especially for foreign (non-UK) markets. Is all the trickle-tech at the UK plug end? Will it be irrelevant for johnny foreigner?

I have a feeling the new classic range of nac's will all have screens and streamers built in with a big dial on top.

I hope not. A provision of having the gear in room is that the top shelf of the rack is actually bare except for whatever my wife chooses to put on it. Top shelf anything is off the cards.

To me it seems obvious if the dial is to remain it will take the form of that offered by Devialet and be a whizz-bang remote objet d'art. Great 'Wife' approval when she spotted it (the silver slab on the rack was ignored).

According to NASA:

"The superNova occurs at the end of a single Star's lifetime. As the Star runs out of nuclear fuel, some of its mass flows into its Core. Eventually, the Core is so heavy that it cannot withstand its own gravitational force. The Core collapses, which results in the giant explosion of a superNova."

Seems like Naim's product strategy has some serious risks. If you buy a Core and a Star, they could explosively turn into a Nova.

Luckily, it is north facing and you're right about the risk of annoying the neighbours. The best hi fit accessory is a detached house

on a more serious note, there is a lot of stuff in a small box so it wouldn't be surprising if it still ran hot, despite the cool looking slots on either side.

The images we are seeing of the new uniti range are all computer generated (CGI) They are not photographs. And as such might not look exactly as the product will in real life in different lighting situations. Let's wait and see it in person before coming to any conclusions about the look.

Will they have wobbly sockets ?

Good job Naim thought of that and put a lump of lead into the case to make it satisfyingly heavy.

The stars were certainly aligned yesterday when during an impromptu visit to Naim HQ, a demonstration of the new Core and Atom was unexpectedly added to our agenda.

Suffice to say we were blown away by the sound quality, design, specification and operation of these new Uniti products.

They represent a huge step forward in every single aspect over the original Uniti range, and a clear indication of how high Naim are now raising the bar.

Orders were inevitably placed and we cannot wait to get hold of our demo units.

cheers

@James@tomtom - how would you describe the sound? Does it sound typically 'Naim' and it it better than or equal to the Unitiqute 2? Thanks!

Jude2012, I would hope so, considering the price difference.
