Dear Forum members,

Today we announce our most revolutionary streaming platform yet. Inspired by our unfaltering passion for music and enabled by more than 40 years' of tireless innovation, we introduce the new Uniti range. Comprising the Uniti Nova, Uniti Star and Uniti Atom all-in-one players and the Uniti Core hard disk server, Uniti's brand new state-of-the-art technology enables you to experience music like never before. Rip and store entire collections, play or stream music from any source, at the touch of a button, all with the deep, immersive sound only a Naim system delivers.

Our Research and Development team in Salisbury had to fundamentally deconstruct every historic design and technology decision we had ever made to challenge themselves and go further, especially in terms of sound quality. It’s a true ground-up development, all hand-built in Salisbury, with our core principles at its heart. We looked at every single aspect of the product proposition, the electronic architecture, the mechanical enclosure, the user experience and the approach to manufacture and assembly.

The result? A clear step change in every single aspect of the products, a true achievement of excellence. We hope you enjoy this exciting new product range and look forward to hearing what you think.

Best wishes

Naim

The new Uniti range is our biggest release in over fifteen years and we are really proud of all the work that has gone into crafting this revolutionary new product range. Due to the technical complexity of Uniti we have faced more challenges than we initially anticipated and we still have some features to refine to ensure the products that reach you are of the highest possible quality.

We are currently processing certifications for AirPlay, GoogleCast, TIDAL, Bluetooth (aptX HD), WiFi, HDMI and Spotify Connect  and beta testing our latest software; the team is working extremely hard to ensure that the products stand up to the level of quality you have come to expect from Naim.

As such we have made the difficult decision to delay shipping Uniti Atom until May with Uniti Star and Uniti Nova following in June.

We have been reviewing all customer feedback from the Uniti Core servers shipped in 2016, and made the decision to stop shipping after Christmas, to ensure we have fixed any software issues before shipping en masse. We are expecting a firmware update next week, and an over-the-air update will be available via the app for those who have already received their Uniti Core servers.  Shipping will re-commence next week as soon as the firmware is available and tested.

We know the delay is frustrating and sincerely apologise for it. Thank you for your continued support and patience while we put the finishing touches on your Uniti.

I have to say they look very stylish and when my UnitiServe packs in again, which I feel it inevitably will, the Core looks like a good alternative.  It would also allow me to get rid of the NAS thereby reducing the box count and cabling.

It is especially pleasing that they are made in the UK though am I the only one who has noticed that Naim seem to have relocated to SAILSBURY?

(If you don't know what I mean, look closely at the image of the rear of the Core).

Cheers,

Ian

It's also impressive that Phil has taken the time to engage with us here.

Ah well that's because all of us users have been too busy on the forum to have any problems with our existing systems that might have caused us to ring Naim support for Phil's help!

*chuckle* Unfortunately I haven't been able to just sit on here and watch it all evolve - I have had 'real' work to do you know...

I do love it when we do a product release though - both the praise and the grumbles - because the one thing that it shows above anything else is the passion that you guys have for your music and that's what counts. It's what makes me love working in this industry and it's what has made the past ten years that I've been here at Naim fly past at a terrifying rate.

Well, Phil, I hope you've made sure that the Core can be backed up without the ridiculous fiasco that is the backing up of the Serve, and where it seems you are constantly dialling in to people's networks. Without that to contend with, you can get some serious tea drinking in.

Didn't you know that the city has been renamed?

The real ones have the correct spelling...

Given the number of HDXs and UnitiServes we've actually sold I doubt that I've even "touched" more than a couple of percent of them ...

Probably because most people don't back them up. Anyway, I'm sure the lesson has been learned.

I am interested in what appears to be an illuminated new remote.  Can be paired with a 272N and is it fully backlit ? I would welcome such a thing.

AH, now i know why Muso firmware and Ios app  issues haven't really been sorted.

Lets hope that we can now have a stable os with the new version.

If you click on the picture at the beginning of the thread, it says 'Uniti Hero' in the bottom left corner. Does that refer to a member of staff, or yet another new product waiting in the wings - a Uniti that will clean the floor and hang out the washing maybe?

Good evening, my compliments for this new effort sir.Phil

I've an answer if you mind: Are those powerline lite  to be shown once units are ready to be shipped or can we already have a look at them?

Excellent news!

Obviously NAIM is a very premium product, but the prices seem pretty reasonable and in-line with what I would expect. What a great step forward.. I really like the Nova and Atom, they look like a great all in one system and the design is just outstanding.

Did naim drop support for ogg/vorbis? (whathifi does not mention it in the list of supported file formats) That would be a pity, because support for ogg is very important for me. My main music is flac, but I have really many files in ogg, too.

So my brand new ND5XS is already outdated? Bloody typical.

Did anyone else think this probably signals the end of the 'slimline' series? Can't remember when the 3 series began - maybe 20 years ago.

If it means the overall product list will be reduced that may be a good thing.

From what I read it appears that the remote is an RF type so not immediately compatible with the existing IR system. Perhaps Phil can elaborate or clarify here at some point.

Good looking kit, but other than the core which could replace my Zen Music server not for me.
Oh um no 372 or 572 so I'll get the 300DR now then

Funny to see how many Uniti products are now flooding the market . . . and funnier to see how outrageous used prices are!

The price of the Core is competitive, as it needs to be in the face of competition from Melco. It improves on the Unitiserve with a better power supply and removable hard disk. Hopefully, the control software is less quirky and and it will be better behaved on our networks. Will it sound better over UPNP, I wonder? I had planned to buy a Melco when my Unitiserve dies, but this is now a very interesting option.

My only hope is that the new device is not just an improved incarnation of the current US. After so many years and considering the available alternatives, I expect the Core to set new standards in terms of energy consumption, OS openness, connectivity, stability, accessibility and, of course, quality of the BNC s/pdif output.

I agree with all this but particularly the '...quality of the BNC s/pdif output.' If it is as good or better than the NDX and a 'Statement Dac' (better that a TT) comes along then I'd buy both the Core & Dac in a second.

We really need a vanguard DAC naim.

I am looking forward to see where Naim will position the Core with respect to the competition. What I find difficult to  understand is the insistence on putting together ripping and serving functionalities. To me, ripping CDs and serving files are completely orthogonal concerns. Also, I can imagine that it would be easier to achieve outstanding s/pdif quality if the device was a pure server, without ripping functionalities. I might be mistaken, of course. But a high quality, dedicated server with the perspective of a vanguard DAC is what I have been hoping for. If the Core does not deliver in this sense, I will stay with my home built fanless server. Best, nbpf

- interesting styling (nothing revolutionary though),
- interesting functions, embracing the future
- simplification, no power supplies or record buttons :-)

all good stuff, but to me it appears to be a very cautious step, solely to reach a wider audience.
Nothing wrong with that, but at this point I would expect Naim to embrace the future confidently, and  far more aggressively, with top of the line offerings, modernising the 252 / 552 level.

Looks like this might be a case of trickle-up technology rather than trickle-down i.e. the new platform and specs from the new Uniti range finding their way to the Classic streamers and pre-amp streamers together with other enhancements no doubt.

Again, I agree. Particularly now that the 'ripping generation' must be diminishing.
