TV with no optical audio - how to connect to a N272

Im looking to upgrade my TV and have noticed that a lot of new TV's don't have optical audio ports which is how i connect my current TV to my N272. What is the best way to hook up my N272 to a TV which only has HDMI, USB,  Composite input  and Ethernet?

If you have a TV that has no analogue or s/pdif digital output then your best bet is to use an ARC HDMI adaptor.  These are a small little box that can take the audio return channel from an ARC enabled HDMI socket on your TV and then convert to optical s/pdif.  Then just connect to your NAC-N272 via an optical Toslink cable.  Not having used one though, I cannot say how good or reliable they are, but I would be mindful of any latency issues if lip-sync issues are to be avoided.

To be honest, your best bet is to avoid buying a TV without an optical output.

Alternatively you could get a HDMI switch with an ARC output... this should take the audio out of a TV via HDMI and offer an optical output.  I've no experience with any of them, but I found several devices searching for "HDMI switch with ARC" or "HDMI ARC to optical".

Another option is: if you have simple L/R RCA outputs you can use those. But to avoid ground-loop hums you may have to use a isolating transformer (cost - around GBP 10).

Ive decided to can the 2k TV as I don't think its worth the upgrade due to lack of 4k content ( i don't use Netflicks etc) and hassle finding a Optical audio output.
