Tidal unavailable on Naim uniti 2
Posted by: Luxy33 on 04 October 2016
Dear Naim members,
Well the problem is simple but I don't know how to fix it. I would like to use Tidal streaming service on my Uniti 2. To do so, I did a firmware upgrade. My system well displays the latest version of the firmware, v4.4.00.
But in the input list where I can select, CD, DAB, Spotify, etc. Tidal does not appear. I have already checked on the forum for similar issues. Some advise to turn the uniti off and on, to do a "reset all settings", to disable-enable the upnp input, but any of this did work.
Maybe some of you experienced the same problem?
Thank you guys for your experience and ideas on this,
Regards,
Luxy33

Have you checked the inputs available by using the remote control? It may be that you don't have the latest app version - have you checked that?
Luxy33,
I had a similar problem when I first tried to access Tidal until someone told me that there was a second page of sources on the selection page of the Naim app. You have to swipe to the left on the line with the source options to drag in the 2nd page which includes Tidal.
Could this be your problem?
Go to Settings > Input settings and make sure the Tidal input is checked. If you also uncheck any inputs that you don't use, they won't show up on the screen any more, so if, as Hmack suggests, the Tidal input is on a second page, this might move it to the page you can see first.
Thanks Hungryhalibut, Hmack, Chrissu,
For Hungryhalibut: I think I already have the latest firmware, it's the 4.4.00, see the picture below.
For the others: to select the Input I have a choice between 17 inputs. I used the remote to browse through the different available inputs. I did a video of it, this way you can maybe tell me if I missed something?
That link was interesting! First it took be to the App Store to download Skybet, then it took me to a VR explicit porn site, and I kid you not! Anyway, I've taken a photo of the input screen on my 272, which is basically the same. You see that most of my inputs are disabled, but Tidal is not. Do you get the same thing?
No I don't have the same. I don't see TIDAL and I don't see Bluetooth. I have the first generation of Uniti 2 without Bluetooth hardware, that's probably why I don't see this input.
Finally my inputs (enable or disable) are the following: CD, FM, DAB, iRadio, Multiroom, UPnP, USB/iPob, Spotify, Front, Analogue 1, Analogue 2, Analogue 3, Phono, Digital 1, Digital 2, Digital 3, Digital 4 => 17 inputs.
Don't you think that I should try to re-upload the 4.4.00 firmware? Maybe there was something wrong when I did the upgrade.
You could try a factory reset on the Uniti (NOTE THIS WILL ERASE ALL PRESETS AND SETTINGS ON THE UNITI!) and see if that resolves the issue. Otherwise try re-updating the firmware. You could try the latter first, you shouldn't lose your settings that way.
When performing the factory reset, disconnect the ethernet cable if used. This will allow the streamer to fully reset. Easy way to factory reset, power the Uniti off, and power on while holding 'stop'. Then follow the on screen instructions.
Have a look at the picture below, and follow the instructions....
HH, this is probably not an issue as he has Spotify as an input, which would not be available on the old 96khz board. I think this is just a firmware update issue, or a confused Uniti requiring a reset.
I really wouldn't suggest you try loading the firmware again. That is not going to help you at all. But a factory reset is certainly worth a try. And of course HH's basic check in his last post, but if it's a Uniti 2 you should be ok from a hardware point of view, I think.
i reckon a factory reset and then check the available inputs in setup again is the next step.

David
With a full 4.4 all my streamers acquired Tidal. Which of course I have promptly disabled
Factory re-set is probably the way to go as David suggested.
Just another detail to check - what is your location? Tidal is unavailable in some countries.
In live in Luxembourg, where Tidal is available.
I am currently at work but I will check the factory reset first using the technique provided by J Saville, technique (holding the stop button...) that I didn't know.
I keep you posted.
Best.

Hi,
Is your unit a 24/96 capable unit or is it a 24/192 capable unit? Check the BC SW entry in "Tools" -> "Factory Settings" -> "System Status" - if it starts with 2D then you have a 24/96 unit which cannot do TIDAL without a hardware update...
Also, when you did the firmware update did the firmware updater tell you that it had completed correctly or did you get an error message and just see that your unit now shows firmware 4.4...?
Phil
Hi Phil,
In the System Status, the BC SW shows 3D13577, so I think my Uniti capable of playing 24/192 files.
But, now that you say it, it is true that when I did the firmware update, it finished with a kind of error message. But because the Uniti 2 worked fine and showed the 4.4 version, I though it was fine. Maybe not...
I tried a new factory reset using the technique of switching off and on + STOP button, still did'nt change anything.
The last solution I see: reload a 4.4 firmware!
I keep you posted.
Dear all,
I reloaded the 4.4 firmware, and it works now!
Thank you all for your advise, you rock ;-)
Good - glad you're up and running ... yes, that "It finished with an error" was the important bit.
Cheers
Phil
