Upgrade my UQ2 / NAP100 combo

Posted by: Chico on 05 October 2016

Hello fellow Naim users,

I'm really in need for a new washingmachine, and my laptop is getting old too..

But.. i decided to upgrade my hifi first

Currently i have a Unitiqute 2 with a NAP 100 and a pair of Tannoy DC8's.

For me the dream is a superuniti, but these are still a bit expensive, so i was thinking about

a s/h NAP250.2 or a new NAP200dr.. the NAP250's are getting reasonable in price, and i could

have it upgraded to dr spec's later.

What you think ?

Greetings from Holland.

hi  my two cents.

UQ2/100 bad idea (I had) adding 200 (I did ) makes much more sense.

But selling UQ2 and budgeting the purchase of a 200DR would help get you a SU instead..

That would be the best move.

Yes thats an option also, selling UQ2/NAP100 and buy secondhand superuniti...

Should think about that, thanks Antonio

you're welcome.

If you get a 200, remember that the DR power supply is only for a Naim preamp if you use one, which it seems you are not planning to do. So a used non-DR 200 would be much better value, maybe only half the cost, and you could sell your 100.

Then you could look out for a 172 and sell your Unitiqute. 172/200 is a nice setup, probably better than a Superuniti.

Absolutely agree.

I have a UQ2 and it is stellar but if I had a a UQ2/100 combo the most logical solution would be a 172 or even a 272 if funds allow after selling the UQ2. The 100 is small but perfectly formed. If it drives the speakers well then focus on source and pre.

I would get a non dr 200 used, and then  save up for a 272. If your Tannoys are the £2,500 standmounts, they deserve that sort of system.

Hi. I upgraded my UQ2/100 combo to a 172/200 combo. I bought the 172 new but purchased a second hand 200 and I love the combination. It was a big upgrade in sound over the UQ2/100 combo. More bass, more soundstage and just filled the room full of music. I using it with Kudos X2 speakers and my LP12.

Depending on size of room/efficiency of speakers, sell the 100 and just use the Qute (better than a SuperUniti) IMO!

Interessting Kermit, never tried my DC8 standmounts without the qute / nap100 combo as i bought the speakers

later. To me it seems that the qute/nap combo lacks something.. especially in the midrange, sounds a bit dark or smotherd or something.

So i guessed i need some more power.

Thanks for the replie anyway, greetings from Holland

Kermit, did you not buy a SuperUniti?
