Quadraspire SVT Bronze spike upgrade fitting help

Posted by: Matthew Johns on 05 October 2016

hi there,

looking at getting the Quadraspire SVT rack 4 shelves in all for my NDX>XPS DR>SN2>NAS (thinking of the 140mm poles for spacing on top 3 shelves and 216mm for the NAS on bottom)

my query is when looking at the bronze spike upgrade kit, are you able to fit the silver mounting part through a shelf i.e. so would have a fifth shelf with the bronze spike that sat on top of the 4th rack shelf directly with no poles (seen some pics on the forum of this) - do i need anything extra to do this or does it come all supplied

anyhow bit of guidance greatly appreciated as ever be nice to have my NDX sat on the additional floating shelf

thankyou,

mat

Why do you want to have the NAS on the rack ?

Posted on: 06 October 2016 by hungryhalibut

To achieve what you want, you must specify that you want 'long bolts' when you order the bronze upgrade kit.

I would strongly advise you not to put the nas on the rack. It will look horrible, and you will hear it clonking away when you fire it up. Locate it (ideally) in another room, or at least hidden away somewhere else in the room.

If you do this, you only need four shelves in total (unless you plan to get a Hicap of course). I use 180mm legs on my rack, which looks nice and gets a bit more separation.

See photo. Upgraded with SVT Bronze this year replaced the top fixing with the one as shown this one is machined to allow the taper to spike to locate.

In case it helps, this is what it looks like with 180mm legs and the bronze upgrade. Do get the bamboo version, which is also available in black, as it sounds a lot better.

hi guys really appreciate the advice (also the pic HH, unfortunately PCDs pic is not showing) - did not realise they did the bamboo in black..... either as want black with the silver legs i think

re: the QNAP NAS reason i moved it closer is, it runs virtually silent and has can direct output its ethernet to the NDX (the 2nd NAS output goes to the switch) found that this gave a massive SQ boost when i did it (previously had it in another room), suppose the extra shelf would also leave space for a Hicap DR in future too

so i need specify long bolts on the bronze upgrade kit order - got it

also question did you find any boost to SQ using the 180mm spacing as opposed to say the 140mm or any other different spacings??

again appreciate the learning

I had 140mm legs to start with but bought the 180mm versions so that the Burndy and Super Lumina din to xlr don't touch the floor. I didn't really listen for the sound impact but it certainly won't do any harm as it gets the 272 away from its power supply, which is always a good thing.

One thing I discovered is that one shouldn't do up the legs too tight. If you do, the spikes don't fit in the holes properly.

It's nice to see more people interested in this rack. It really is very good and with the thick legs doesn't look like a tea trolley, which the more basic Q4 tends to resemble.

HH, I've had my Quadrasphire rack for years and like you its nice to see people interested they are very good and with so many options and finishes to suit plus they do look like a nice piece of furniture.

Yep. Agree with HH. My SVT is in black, and the top shelves in bamboo. Very pleased with it.

question where/who did you get the black bamboo version from as cannot see it on any websites anywhere as an option?  like the look MDS still thinking silver leg though, what leg spacing did you go with?

thanks again

Hi Mat,

I have an SVT bamboo rack plus bronze cones too and would hugely recommend it. It looks great makes a really positive difference to the music. The bamboo is the way to go.

By the way, the NAS plugs into the ethernet switch, not the hi fi, so are you putting that on the rack too?

Look on the Quadrasphire Web site or you can ring them for advice.

got a long ethernet cable from the NAS to the switch which i kept out of the way on wall behind sofa (NAS is capable of internal switching itself so hence can connect diretly to streamer and switch, exactly same thing as the melco N1A does - thinking may add an ethernet isolator at some point to the NAS,  Acousence GISO GB maybe?)

I didn't know the QNAP can connect directly, like the Melco. I'm a bit sad that the new Core can't do this (although I don't know why!).

I've chopped and changed the height of my columns since I had a single SVT rack and eventually spilt to brain and brawn.  It's currently a mixture and I've gone for visual harmony rather than, like HH, in dressing cables.  I've left that complicated bit to my brilliant dealer.

Re bamboo, as PCD has already said, Quadraspire offer this choice.

Thx guys will contact quadraspire directly me thinks some nice pics too

re: my Nas model is a qnap t-251plus from memory with 8gb ram, has a setting for virtual switch which lets you connect it same as the melco n1a

When you have two racks it's easy to keep the Burndy off the floor. But when you only have a little system like mine, longer legs are the only way. The shorter ones do look nicer though. Ah well.

I think black bamboo is available by special order only.  I had to pay a slight premium over the standard bamboo.  I prefer the look of the brushed aluminum posts with the black bamboo for my speakers & decor.  YMMV.

Nice Blownaway, exact colour i was thinking

#reaching for wallet as he types#

is that with 140mm spacings on your posts??

Posted on: 09 October 2016 by hungryhalibut

Yes, they are 140mm columns. The black and aluminium looks very nice - the columns are quite a dull colour: Fraim silver looks too gaudy to me.

Has anyone used 100mm spacing of shelves, i'm trying to fit the rack into a cabinet with the bottom spikes making contact with the floor and have a bit of a height restriction?

i appreciate that wider spacing would be more desirable, maybe able to go to 140mm..maybe not.

Yep, me - picture above. I went for the 100mm so the hi fi wouldn't dominate the room, but some of the burndies do touch the floor. I may treat myself to a few 140mm legs, but I'm reluctant to mix leg lengths.
