Does anybody know what happens with insurance claims on Naim kit.mine is being taken away tomorrow to be checked. Its old now but probably not going to get better after coffee damage.Do they try and get Naim techs to repair?

thats what I have just had sorted for me Innocent Bystander.old kit that is unavailable now. They gave me a cash settlement for my Amp and CD player. They look at the spec of your kit and somehow work out what they think its worth.

Mine take advice from a specialist and go for nearest match. So, Tudor wris****ch no longer made is replacable with equivalent in Rolex range. Not sure if same logic would mean a Statement to replace previous top of range 32.5 though!

sounds about the same as mine then

Sounds like a recipe for argument, unless you're lucky!  I wonder how they'd value Quad ESL57?

And what if they learn that you only bought those 50 year old Quadsa week before the loss, for £400?

Should read 'wris****ch'! Not sure which gremlin sabotaged that one!

Edit: some curious glitch in the matrix! Is the watch of a wrist now profane somewhere on the planet?

Loki, its the rude word filter. I'll leave you to figure it out..

As for Tudor, very much alive and well with updates of most of their classics available today. I love Tudor - you get all the best bits of Rolex but without the baggage that the brand brings.

So the filter includes the same sequence of letters within another quite innocent word...  so drawing attention to it!

I wonder what words are on the list, and so when else it will kick in: I recall when I was a kid growing up in Middlesex, whenever newspapers published something including  the name of the county the text ended up hyphenating so that the word 'sex' appeared on its own at the start of a line, which Happened so often the only conclusion is that it was deliberate so that it caught people's eyes, apparently tuned to spot certain words as triggers for a story worth reading. I wonder if the above will make it through uncensored.

Well, the filter does tend to pick out words within words sometimes.  For example, there's a certain town in North Lincolnshire that it doesn't particularly like the look of...

Oh dear. I was too far too innocent to notice the reference to fish genitalia and Cameron's muddled attempt to reference Twitter. Thanks for the revelation.

Tudor: yes well-rebooted, and concur with your 'backdoor Rolex' observation. However, mine dates back to 1986 and is no longer in production hence the recommendation from Mappin and Webb that closest replacement was an identical model still in production with Rolex.

The interesting point was that the insurance company asked me to choose the specialist to advise them. I would choose a dealer for Naim equipment if they required it.

well just got my money through.can anyone recommend a good second hand naim dealer ?or is that a no no on here?many thanks

Pretty certain recommendations are against rules. There are one or two specialist s/h hifi dealers in UK that crop up on web searches from time to time, though I have no experience of them or whether they do Naim. Otherwise I think many dealers take thing in part ex., and stocks will vary from time to time and dealer to dealer - ring around, and leave details of what you're after if they haven't got.

meanwhile there's a great web resource by the name of Hifi coupled to name of a very large and predatory type of fish, that lists hifi equipment availabe from a variety of sources on the internet, not limited to auction sites though it includes them, and you can set up automatic notifications.

Second that. James who runs it is a joy to deal with and goes out of his way to help. He's also a Naim retailer so sells new stuff too.

Google second hand Naim should bring up a list but better if you put in
what you are looking for.

Lots of Naim dealers sell used gear, mostly trade-ins or ex-demo, just call some or see if they have stuff listed on their websites.

They do indeed - just talking from positive experience over th past 12 years. I do use another dealer too - Julian Chapman and his team  at Audio-t in Brighton. I've known Julian since the shop was Jeffries. Fabulous dealer. There, that's enough promoting for one evening!

Asgaard first used the services of Jeffries Brighton in 1989 whence came the LP12 . A fine team indeed

For SH stuff it depends what you are looking for. Best to try several. I've used Tom Tom, Cymbiosis, AudioT, Signals, and Moorgate. More than enough scope for a Norse god.

Ooo..  with a couple of grand you could be looking at something like a CDX/XPS and a NAC82.  Or perhaps, if you're feeling brave, a nice CDS.  I seem to recall seeing a nice example for sale just the other day on a dealer site.  Risky (replacement mechs are now very hard to find), but lovely all the same.  As you have a NAP250, I assume you already have the Hicap for the NAC282?

Otherwise, if you wish too move to the new world of streaming, then an ex dem or s/h NAC-N272 could be a good move.  Plenty here like this one...

i only have a flatcap and NAP 250 left working Richard.as I mainly use vinyl and am considering getting back into my 3000 + cds so its what I can get for my bucks.using Audio vectorMi3 speakers .Money from insurance driving this week.need to get into gear and buy buy buy.

If you only have the 250 (and a Flatcap), then a 272 is a very good option in terms of vfm and sound quality match, it's even better if you can also afford an XPS (perhaps s/h).

Who can blame it: there are lots of towns in Lincolnshire I don't like the look of...  :-)
