Setting up Muso QB - not obvious?

Posted by: blythe on 11 October 2016

I bought a new Muso QB a few days ago and started the set-up procedure.
I read the single sheet explaining what to do and no matter what I did, I couldn't figure out the colour of the "flashing status indicator" which I wrongly imagined to be the volume knob or the light around the base. Those were the only lights I could see.
It honestly took me about 10 minutes before I realised there was a light on the BACK of the unit.
Call me old fashioned but, shouldn't there be some reference to the location of the "status indicator" in the instructions? I checked after I found the tiny light on the back of the unit but found no reference to its location. Or did I miss it?
Also, once I'd found the light, being colourblind, I had to ask a friend to help me...
However, now it's all set up and working a treat, even on wi-fi streaming FLAC from my Synology NAS drive.
The QB is an amazing piece of kit which, has so impressed a couple of my friends, that they are probably going to buy one each

Naim are a lot better at making HiFi than they are at writing manuals.....lets hope it stays that way!!

It does state that the flashing status light is next to the reset pin hole...

And I agree with you, the sound quality blew me away. I knew it would be good, but never dreamed it would be THAT good!

I have had the IOS app lock up quite a few times though on my IP6s+

Hmm, my single page instruction does not state that the flashing status light is next to the reset pinhole - I only found that info when I downloaded the full manual from the Naim web site.

So far (and this must be tempting fate) my QB and Naim app (iPhone 6S running IOS10) have both behaved perfectly, all only using it over wi-fi

But the full manual is in the box, or am I imagining something? The manual is not really bad, I managed to get my qb up and running without sight. Not easy but possible, but just because Naim has a history of writing not ttoo clear manuals, this does not mean it has to be so for eternity.

The full manual was not in my box.

I certainly didn't get one. I believe it's available on line, though I've never needed it.

The full manual is indeed available from Naim's website, but also there and rather more useful is illustrated instructions on how to do almost anything you might want to do, including screen shots of your smartphone as you use AirPlay to transfer the wifi credentials from your phone to the Qb for example.

I think referring to printed instructions is not part of what the major customer segment they are aiming at ever does any more.

I just checked in my Qb box there is a manual with a small thing used to press the reset button, like the one that ships with Apple phones. The manual is probably reserved for users living in countries that the manual is not translated into.

I think it's thecquick start guide you are talking about. I've already lost the little pokey thing, but a drawing pin does the trick too.

Or a paper clip...

Yes I just checked in my box and as HH says it's the quick Start guide in 14 languages. You get a few lines of info and get pointed at the apps. The country specific reference manual that you can download from the website is 20 plus pages of A4 per language.

I just wish the "quick guide" had simply shown me where the set-up flashing light was.... I thought it was referring to the lights around the volume knob or around the base / Naim logo.... For ten minutes anyway...

I would like a beep when the unit goes into wifi hotspot mode. Actually I think this would benefit sighted users also.
