New Uniti Range

Posted by: Supermotion on 11 October 2016

Dear Naim,

I'm looking to move to your new range but I have a few questions:

1/  I currently have a MUSO (love it!) but can I add a Uniti Core to it?

2/  If I banish the MUSO to the bedroom and get a Uniti Atom with separate speakers, can I use this in the same way as my MUSO today?

3/  Can I add the Uniti Core at a later date to the Atom?

4/  If I get the the Uniti Star is this an all in on unit but basically the same as separate  Atom + Core?

5/  With any of the above can I use Uniti to sync music and playlists with my phone and/or portable music device like I can with Tidal?

Many thanks for your help,

Regards

Mike (NOOB).

Some answers (but not all):

1.) Yes, you can add the Uniti Core to your network and stream the music via UpnP to the mu-so.

2.) Sure!

3.) Yes, as I've mentioned before, just add the Core at a later date to your network and stream to the mu-so and Core at the same time...

4.) Difficult one, I guess the answer would be yes ...

5.) I have no experience with this one, maybe other forum members may comment about this ...

Thank you for your answers.  for Q5, I guess my question is basically about sending playlists or copying music to my device from the Uniti Core / storage part of the system. This is quite an important point for me because I don't want to have my music collection restricted to only at home when I use my Uniti storage.

With a Unitiserve, you can transfer files to other devices easily. I put music on my Walkman from it by simple drag and drop via a computer. I'd be surprised if the Core lost this ability. Not sure about playlist transfer, though.

Just an FYI - Although this is the Naim forum we don't actively trawl the forums and so questions here will usually be picked up by other forum members and they will usually be able to assist however if you specifically want to get someone from Naim then there are contact details in either the sticky at the top of each forum and in the side bar on the right. It just happens that with the release last week we're keeping a bit closer an eye on here at the moment to try to keep information on the various threads relevant and accurate...

The Core would give you CD ripping and UPnP serving of those CDs so they could be accessed from your Core.

Yes ... the Atom can be used in exactly the same way as the Mu-so.

Yes ... The Atom will give you extended functionality over the Mu-so and - just as with the Mu-so - the Core can be added to give you CD ripping and serving.

Music ripped on the Core will be able to have a parallel MP3 copy generated at the same time that can be used with portable devices and accessed from your network from your computer as a normal shared network folder.

The Core will not provide any functionality to enable playlists themselves to be synched between itself and your portable music player.
